This book infuriated me. Even Haunting Adaline infuriated me less than this book did. Oh my god the main character Joe Ledger. Smartest man and the most wiseass couldn‘t figure out the simple hand fed clue when it was in his face three times. Oh and don‘t get me started on the villain Gault. I hated this book with a passion and I‘m still fuming over just how incompetent the hero and the villain are.

This was a fascinating mix of sci-fi, horror, and political/spy thriller. The graphic violence was on par with horror. The science was straight sci-fi. Then Maberry threw in a dash of political thriller just for fun. This was my first of his novels, and this is all stuff Maberry is known for. Thoroughly enjoyable and breathtakingly frightening. Not sure if Maberry is a genius or a madman!

Part political thriller. Part science fiction. Part horror. Color me intrigued, but we shall see.

January Reviews

Book 9 in the Joe Ledger series. So sometimes when a book in a series devastates me, I take a long break from it. The last book in this series saw Joe, Echo Team, and the DMS face some big losses. It‘s been three years for me, so time to pick another one up. The characters have not had a lot of recovery time so when the next big bad guy comes along, it‘s an uphill climb. This is an action packed series and often over the top, ⬇️

Bookzombie but I love it. Ray Porter brings the characters to life.
Only one more book in this particular series to go. #SeriesLove2023

Sometimes I think if Maberry kills Top or Bunny, I will break up with him. Probably not, because I love his others series, Rot & Ruin and Dead of Night. I also need to finish his Pine Deep Trilogy.

I love Joe Ledger! Thank you Amazon Book Wishlist!!

Sorry … the birthday month book haul continues.

This book comes from a friend who reads the Ledger books with me. I‘d collect as many hardcovers as I can find!!

This one came from a library!! I peeled away the stickers and tape, fixed the binding, removed the jacket & recovered it. Perfection!!

I listened to the audiobook. Loved it! It‘s always good to have more Ledger!! Short stories including crossovers with several other Maberry series.

These are hardcovers with no dust jackets. Very pretty!

🎧 9 Joe Ledger short stories written by Jonathan Maberry & narrated by Ray Porter.

My favorite was Dog Days.

If you like Joe Ledger you‘ll enjoy this book of short stories from all across the Maberry/Ledger world.

“Grow up! This is the 21st century professor, we left the fiction out of science fiction a long time a go”, said Ledger. “We have self-drive cars, combat robots, nanotech, holoportation conference calls, the god particle, reusable rocket ships and … Oh! Cool!”

He removed a small automatic in an ankle holster on a dead man‘s leg. He ejected and inspected the magazine, checked the action & slapped the magazine back into place. 👇🏻
