Thomas Hardy, "The Darkling Thrush"
These melancholy, listless days between Christmas and New Year!
I did actually hear a thrush singing in the garden this morning.
DivineDiana How lovely! I would not recognize the song of the thrush! 6y
MaGoose I love Hardy's poetry more than his novels. 💕👌☺ 6y
Lindy @DivineDiana The thrush I know best is the American robin. Its song is a sign of spring, when robins return to the Edmonton area. You can hear it online: https://youtu.be/WZl2X4zjejA (edited) 6y

DivineDiana Thank you, Lindy! It is a sign of Spring in the Northeast of the United States as well! I did not realize that a thrush and a robin are one and the same! #learningthroughlitsy 6y
quietlycuriouskate @MaGoose So do I! ❤ 6y
quietlycuriouskate @Lindy @DivineDiana How lovely! That does sound a lot like the thrush I heard in the garden earlier. Your robins look to be the dressed-up cousins of our blackbirds, which I have always thought "hold" the spring/summer half of the year, while our robins hold the autumn/winter half. 6y
DivineDiana I need to do some bird research! 😉 🐦 ❤️ 6y
