For #pridemonth2020, I'm highlighting 30 openly LGBTQ+ authors. Toni Newman is a black trans woman and activist advocating on the behalf of sex workers. Her memoir explores her life lived outside the norm and her experience in discovering how to live as herself. #LGBTQvoices #blackvoices #lgbtqauthors #transauthor #BLM #lgbtauthors #transgender #Pocauthor #LGBTQbook #blackauthors

We Are the Ants | Shaun David Hutchinson

Pickpick

Coming in late to the #junebookbugs tag but everyone is having so much fun and I want to join in 😆. Shaun David Hutchinson is a #lgbtauthors and while I've only read this one book by him- it was really unique and surreal. I definitely want to pick up more by him in the future @RealLifeReading

So the #junebookbug challenge today is #lgbtauthors. I never cease to be amazed by the creativity and genius of authors. That they can totally absorb my mind and bring me great joy is something I am really grateful for. Unless it's a biography or autobiography I do not understand the significance of knowing an author's sexuality or how they see their gender. I am pretty sure they don't need to know the same about me, the reader.

Cinfhen I think you raise an important and interesting point 🤓 7y
readinginthedark I don't think it's necessary by any means. I think of it kind of like I would in a literary criticism class: first, I just read it; then, I reread or think back on it from various angles (one of which would be the authors life). 7y

Collected Poems | Edna St. Vincent Millay

Happy #bookishbirthday to American poet Edna St. Vincent Millay! My dad is a huge fan of hers, and she was a big influence on Mary Oliver (who I also adore). I love the poem cited here - but in this, the year of poetry, I need to track down more! And a figure worth reading more about - openly bisexual in the early 20th century, she lived a fascinating life true to herself. #readwomen #lgbtauthors

LisaJo This was the first line of poetry I was ever forced to memorize in school. And I was so glad I was forced to memorize poetry in school. Happy Birthday Edna St. Vincent Millay. (edited) 8y
