Shield's Lady | Jayne Ann Krentz

Oh dear. This is the first book by Krentz that I didn‘t really like. Granted, it is book 3 in a series, and I have not read the first two, but it‘s way more sci-fi than her other reads, including her Arcane series. The arrogance of the male main character bordered on domineering and controlling, and I really did not Bond well with the female lead. It did serve as a good distraction while doing house chores, though! #19822022 #1989

This appears to be a comprehensive look at what might have happened to the Lost Colony of Roanoke. The author gives the known history & a great deal of background on the Elizabethan "characters"(both Old World and New) then goes on to examine many possible fates for these settlers. This is a mystery that will never be solved- although I think one theory makes more sense than any other- but this book presents the known facts in an interesting way.

KimM I need to get back to reading this one. Its very well-researched. 4y

First audiobook of 2020 finished! This history of the lost Roanoke Colony also explores the modern-day obsession with discovering its fate. The first half was a bit slow at points, but I enjoyed it overall.

Reviewsbylola I just had to return this to the library unread. Maybe someday! Roanoke fascinates me. 4y
readtheworld @Reviewsbylola It was really good on audio — I think in print I might have gotten bogged down in the recap of the colony‘s history. 4y

Just finished this piece while reading this book. The book is immensely well researched. Check it out if you are interested in the early colonization of the US.

Lcsmcat I loved this book! And going to his talk/signing before I read it meant I heard it in his voice as I read. 6y

4 hours completed, and I have less than 50 pages to go in the tagged book. Need to take a break now and do a few things, then it will be back to reading this afternoon! #24in48 #readathon #breaktime

SharonGoforth @BarbaraTheBibliophage Yes! This book has maps that were drawn at the time, and I was comparing (or at least trying to) them with present day 🤓. 6y
