pickHaving never read 120 Days of Sodom and knowing little about de Sade or the world of manuscript and letter collecting, I found this endlessly fascinating. There‘s something almost supernatural about how 120 Days has survived, the impact it‘s had on those who have sought it. I‘m enamored by his legacy—was he a monster or a paragon? Warner isn‘t trying to answer this question but he does a fine job giving us the info to consider it for ourselves.

so-so120 days of Sodom is reference to the school of Libertinage. A school where 4 heros (De Sade's words not mine) take children of both sexes along with their wives where they are schooled in the practice of complete submission to their masters.
This is my third De Sade and potentially my last as while I find him as a person fascinating his books can be very dry to read.
pickI have a fascination with Marquis De Sade, one of the first documented Libertines and one of the earliest writers of BDSM and same sex relations. 17th century French literature is extraordinary.
Triggers warnings all over this which should not be a surprise since the word sadism was derived from his name.
The first volume is on Spotify narrated by Susan Penhaligon which just her voice alone is extremely enjoyable.
panThis was another month with progress on long reads and lots of audio. I really enjoyed The Hunchback of Notre Dame, A Night Divided, and Gut.
Usually I pick a favorite to tag, but today I‘m tagging the worst book I‘ve ever read which I just finished last night. Justine was horrible with no character development for the main character and over 200 pages of rape, imprisonment, and violence.
