“I and Pangur do each our task, and share our peaceful days.“
Join a thoughtful monk and his white cat, Pangur, as they spend their days doing what they love most. The White Cat and the Monk is a warm story about friendship and finding joy in everyday routines.
This story celebrates friendship and doing what you love. Jo Ellen Bogart‘s retelling of an old Irish poem captures the peaceful life of a monk and his white cat, Pangur, who happily spend their days side by side
I had several issues with this book.
The poetic rhyming was forced at a few points. The illustrations for this story, supposedly set in early medieval Ireland (with monks shown creating manuscripts similar to the Book of Kells), depict modern shoes and Roman style tonsures when the Irish during this period had their own distinct tonsure. ⬇️
There are not many books where I completely and utterly lose myself. This was one of them. I loved it. Most fantasy stories are set in castles etc. But this one was set in an abbey which was a lovely surprise. Loved the story and the characters. Hugely recommend! ❤️❤️❤️ I loved the cover as well, it‘s really pretty!
No wonder monks weren‘t always (rarely?) what you would expect. Most of the men there weren‘t there willingly.
