I didn't read this word for word #outloud to my students. I just don't have time for all the words 😢 but they got a kick out of this page. Our 3rd graders just performed this song dor the MLKjr concert.

I've only read 2 books in this series #outloud to my students, and by far, this edition is the funniest. It's about having space and accepting others. It has a touch of romance. Romance is hard to find in the pre-K to 3rd grade target range.

Inspired by the classic hand game, Mr. Wiggle & Mr. Waggle. Illustrated by Pete Oswald. Includes a dog and a cat, several birds. And then Deedy is so great my kids love her books. ❤️ I read it #outloud to a tough crowd today, and more than half enjoyed it. Some kids just can't be pleased.

I ordered this sight unseen. It looked cute! Read it for the 1st time #outloud to a group of kindergarteners while a couple of teachers were in the room. I got a little nervous on this page. I mean, Are you There God? It's me, Mandy... just reading this puberty 😳 analogy to your kids, nothing to it. Why are we so uptight? I'm asking you, 🇺🇸. I blame the puritans. The author is 🇨🇦. Canadians aren't weired about this stuff.

I Really Want the Cake was a hit at my book fair, priced at $2 for the paper back. Meanwhile, this arrived in a book order, and I think this is even better. The kids loved hearing it read #outloud

An oldie but a goodie. Nominated for the 2018 #WCCPBA, Fruit Bowl showed up in my book fair. I read it #outloud to my youngest students, who were barely blips when I read it to the whole school in 2017. It's weird when I think I just read a book and then realize those kids aren't even kids anymore. 😳 But seriously, are you aware of all the vegetable imposters out there?

This picture is of Mardi at the Palm Beach zoo. Of my 300 kids, I was impressed by how many have been to see Mardi 3,300 miles away! I also love when the subtitle says it's a true story, then after I read the book #outloud, kids gasp when they see in the back matter photographs because they didn't know it was true. #WCCPBA 2023 nominee

Nominated for the 2023 #WCCPBA, I just read this #outloud to a third of my students in 6 reads. My sub read it 5 times. I'll be reading it this week as well. Until all 300 kids have heard it. Already, it's a buzz.
They ❤️LOVE❤️ it. I need more copies. Personally, I didn't think it was that funny or a cat. It's a cat.

DogMomIrene The colors definitely draw me in. I‘m a sucker for rainbows! 1y

Shawn Loves Sharks | Curtis Manley

This book was in my Scholastic book fair so I read it to the kinders and 1st graders: we did the math problem, when I got to the first number, I wrote it on the board (turns out Kindergarten is working on 100th place this week). When we got to the end and worked the story problem, I asked the students how they got their answer. 3 ways to one - including, “I looked at the picture“. The students are always amazed when I can make library about math.

mandarchy I really love this book because it features Asian characters, the author and illustrator are from my region of the world. This is one of those picture books that is meant to be shared with kids. It has a lot to teach. 1st it's really about how our behavior affects others and kindness. Kids and parents can relate to the shark obsession and I always pause at the start when Shawn is pretending to swim like a shark, because the illustration depicts ⬇ 2y
mandarchy how effectively imagination can get us into character.
I have read this book about 30 times #outloud over the course of 3 years and it never fails to impress students. They love seeing how Shawn behaves while waiting to pick his predator or how Stacy stands on the table and boasts (we talk about how when people hurt they act-out).

Nominated for #WCCPBA
I just read this 19 times #outloud to my K-5 students. It encapsulates great and less remembered moments in the Civil Rights movement before 1968. I took a moment with some students to explain that TV was new like TikTok today. People were watching for the 1st time and they were outraged. I was fascinated that out of about 340 students, only one drew a comparison to Colin Kaepernick. I live in a social justice desert.

mandarchy If you teach 3rd through 8th grade, I hope you can add this to your library. The author has a video that my students loved on her website. It's basically 30 minutes of Elgin Baylor making basketball look easy. 2y
mandarchy If you want to make a #PNW connection, it's mentioned in the book that Baylor lived in and attended schools in Idaho and Seattle. He grew up in D.C. 2y
