#ARichLife #Twilight

My teen has been talking to me about Nietzsche, so I'm dusting off my Twilight of the Idols and The Anti-Christ from college. I made notes in it, so I know I read it, but I remember nothing from this book except that it wasn't what I'd expected when I was 19 years old.

Eggs I‘ve not read a whole Nietzsche book yet, just excerpts… 2w

Here‘s an idea. Don‘t give the Nobel Peace Prize to anyone who actually *wants* it.

TieDyeDude It's so pathetic. I'm surprised he didn't just nuke Gaza when he didn't win 🙄 1mo
AnnCrystal It is insulting 😢✊🏼🤬... America is in chaos because of Little t and his administration. The city of Los Angeles, CA has just officially declared “A State Of Emergency“ over the invasion of federal barbarians threatening the safety and causing distress to both immigrants and American Angelenos. 1mo
Bookwomble He wasn't eligible for this year's Peace Prize for his 2025 Israel/Palestine talks as the cut off for nominations was 2024. As the prize is only awarded to living nominees, hopefully he won't be eligible for it next year, either! 🪦 3w

Pickpick

I knew nothing about Schopenhauer going in, and if asked I would probably have guessed that he was a composer. I didn't really understand the explanation about Schopenhauer's theory of the Will as the meaning seemed to slip and slide about and just as I thought I was beginning to understand it the concept changed. I don't know who was at fault, me, the author, or Schopenhauer.

Tamra All I know about him is a reference my husband uses with the kids to explain their desires are a void that won‘t be filled with whatever they are pining for at the moment. We just say “Schopenhauer”, but my daughter then counters with the fact she‘ll enjoy the experience of wanting & getting this (fill in blank) thing and will also enjoy the next & ad infinitum. Hard to argue with that. 😏 5mo

I took this on a short trip recently for a light read. These mini penguins are great for that. I found this one overall boring and uninspiring, there was one essay ‘On Work and Happiness‘ had moments and relevance, other than that quite unremarkable.

Yes I was. I was such a reader that by the time I left elementary school I had read everything in the library, even the encyclopedia. In high school I struggled with certain aspects of math.

I've been studying epistemology in my class this semester and I've been looking for books to help me understand it better. I added this book to my ThriftBooks cart two days ago, and then I surreptitiously found it at the library book sale yesterday! It's annotated and I'm enjoying not only reading Russell's writings, but also the scribblings of the previous owner who was also trying to make sense of it all.

Schwifty I don‘t know if you‘re into graphic novels, but there‘s one I particularly enjoy called Logicomix: An Epic Search for Truth which is the story of Russell‘s early years, courtship of his wife and struggle to formulate his analytical philosophy. I majored in philosophy in college and read a ton of his work. He was particularly accessible when others, especially non-English philosophers, were not so much to the layman. Anyway, happy reading. 8mo
Rachel.Rencher @Schwifty Thank you for the recommendation! I love graphic novels & that one is now added to my ThriftBooks cart. 👍 8mo

Anyone else gets annoyed by these? ://

Almost always can‘t get my focus back

kspenmoll Yes! 9mo
AlaSkaat @kspenmoll it reminded me of the ‘can you find the the mistake? 123‘ so I kept going back and forth thinking I‘m reading it wrong ! There‘s so many punctuation mistakes in books though. Especially older ones. 9mo
