pickLow pick, mostly because of the aforementioned #undramaticirony. It did get revealed in the next chapter. I also felt that all the conflicts were resolved too easily. However, I loved all the characters and found the main three all relatable in different ways, which was nice. The poly and queer rep felt very true to life, and I just loved the endings (it felt like the last two chapters and the epilogue were all different endings)!
so-soDidn‘t want this one as much as book one. I think it focused more on the relationship between the two main characters which isn‘t a bad thing but it kind of distracted from what I liked about the series in the first place. Not a bad one just not quite as good as book one
pickThis was a lot of fun to get into as an anime fan. It blends classic anime action with great historical commentary. Also has some well written characters that make for a compelling cast to fallow
Gah. I was excited for this polyamorous romance and really enjoying it so far. Then I hit the halfway point and the main character reads some paperwork and discovers!!! Some DRAMA!!!
No idea what the drama is.
I‘m annoyed. I‘m going to give it one more chapter. If the drama isn‘t revealed by the end of that chapter, this is a DNF (and maybe even if the drama is revealed).
Made some bunnies for some babies while I reread IRON WIDOW on audio. I originally planned to make two bunnies each for the two newborns and two toddlers, but the hand sewn parts are fiddly and I‘m time poor right now, so the newborns can have the bunnies and the older kids can have the store bought toys. #audiosewing
pickThe messy aftermath of destroying a government. I loved this, but I can understand why many people didn't.
It's very different from Iron Widow, the tone is different, there's a lot of political discussions, and several important characters are side lined.
It made sense to me. This was a young, uneducated girl, full of rage and hope, trying to survive a catastrophe she caused.

panHeavenly Tyrant picks up pretty close to where Iron Widow left off, although it took me a few pages to figure that out because from the get-go this book is a hot mess.
Iron Widow was a brilliant story of feminine rage with unforgiving sharp teeth. The novel is grounded in the Zetian/Yizhi/Shimin relationship. Not only is that triad torn apart in Heavenly Tyrant, we are introduced to a new love/hate interest for Zetian, which I had 0 interest in.
