"I started Sister Spit because I wanted to go on a massive road trip, and I don't drive. I started Sister Spit because I had a vision of a group slumber party with all the most interesting people I've met. I started Sister Spit because I was frustrated that all my friends were wild geniuses and the rest of the world didn't seem to know this." Michelle Tea, intro
So far, this book (published in 1995, about a group of Filipinx non-straight kids living in Hawaii) is a really good antidote to all the white-transmasculine-centric nineties gender theory and sexology I read in college when I didn't know any better. Everything I like about nineties queer and trans writing, with less of the cringey stuff.
These are some of my favourite covers for books I own! I'm especially fond of The Guns of Ivrea, which is a swashbuckling tale of political intrigue, high-seas fantasy, action & adventure!! Did I mention that there are pirates & mermaids in this adult speculative book? 😉
