I just finished the book and then watched the movie. A great book about the investigation into a serial killer in 1953 Moscow, when murders were covered up by the state and blamed on the less "desirables" of that time. The movie added some visuals to the story but so much was left out, as is usually the case with the movie vs.book. I would give both ??

mdm139 But Tom Hardy🥰 17h
KathyWheeler Excellent book and movie. Did you see Citizen X, which is about the same case? It‘s good too. 17h

#weeklyforecast

2 books on the go currently; I‘ll finish In the Wilderness and continue with the tagged book, which is a bit of a chunkster at almost 800 pages.

I‘m getting the Carolina book from the library tomorrow and hope to start the Doig too.

All of these are for #nfnov so I might need some fiction too, but that depends on my mood....

Cinfhen Bastard out of Carolina is meant to be VERY HEAVY!!! FluffyFiction might be necessary ☺️ 1d
TrishB I have Carolina on the tbr - been there a while and can‘t bring myself to read! I‘ll await your review. 1d
Cathythoughts Carolina‘s title scares me .... (edited) 1d

Balibee146 Same about Caroline... Been almost at the top for ages @Cinfhen @TrishB @Cathythoughts 1d
Birdsong28 Are you enjoying The Romanov's? 📚📖 1d
megnews I‘ve started Bastard out of Carolina twice and didn‘t get far. It wasn‘t the book. I think it wasn‘t time yet. But it‘s one I must get to. 1d
julesG Keep at least one fluffy read at hand. Maybe 1d
squirrelbrain Oh gosh, you‘ve put me off a bit @Cinfhen @TrishB @Balibee146 @megnews - I‘m not sure I‘m in the mood for heavy. The library also has some Pat Conroy books, which seem to be set in SC. I may look at those instead.... 1d
squirrelbrain @julesG 🤣🤣🤣 1d
squirrelbrain @Birdsong28 - enjoying it so far. It took a while to get into it but then picked up nicely.... 1d
BarbaraBB Oops! I didn‘t know that it was so heavy when mentioning 1d
Cinfhen Pat Conroy is probably a gentler choice 💕💕💕 1d

I really enjoyed this story set in Kamchatka about the disappearance of two young girls and how it effects many people in this small, isolated region. Prepare for the feel of linked short stories that eventually connect instead of a thriller/suspense novel.

BarbaraBB I am looking forward to this one! (edited) 1d

Went to visit a much loved bookshop in Edinburgh to find the owners had sold up and the shop had a new name (but fortunately, the stock was as great as ever!)

Balibee146 Nice. Not been across to Edinburgh is so long... Which shop was/is it? 👍 1d
charl08 It was called Wordpower - now Lighthouse books (near the uni). 1d

A lot has happened in my life since picking up this book so it took me a while to get through. However, I appreciated that it seemed to reflect the highs and lows in my own life. The Count is truly a special character. And I‘m glad #litsymademedoit

Nute I think that I read in another post that I need to congratulate you. Thank you for what you do. Stay safe out there, Ms. Rachel!💕 1d
Copwithabook @Nute thank you so much! 1d

LiteraryinLititz I just saw the previous post. Congratulations on the promotion!! That‘s awesome!! 1d
Leftcoastzen Cute kitty!😻This has been on my TBR for a long time! 1d
Librariana I'm with @Nute - Congratulations on your phenomenal accomplishment! 😊🎉🎉🎉 (I wanna call you 'Detective' already but I imagine we have to wait?? Before my husband sowed on Master Sergeant, they would add a 'Select' to the end of the rank 🤷🏽‍♀️ Then again, I'm a civilian and understand very little about that stuff 😁) 1d
Copwithabook @Leftcoastzen Bean the cat says thank you. He is the most photogenic member of our household 17h
Copwithabook @LiteraryinLititz and @Librariana thank you. I start in that position on Dec.2. My family is excited that I will be home for Christmas 17h

Svetlana was Stalin‘s beloved daughter, Kremlin princess, and this is biography of her unsettled life under the always present Stalin‘s shadow. Her life, marked with restlessness, abandonment and with some really bad decisions, is presented not only through author‘s narration, but also through her letters, passages from her book, newspapers articles, documents ... Well researched, interesting and readable.

I‘m proud of myself for not only finishing this book, but for also enjoying it! I love historical fiction about WWII, but am squeamish with really gory details. Well, this book is not for the squeamish, BUT I pushed through and am so glad I did 👍🏻 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 stars

This story has killed me (in a good way!) I was so absorbed in the love story of Alexander and Tatiana that every moment I wasn‘t reading, I was thinking about it and talking to anyone who would listen. I can‘t wait to go onto the second novel now. 😍

TheSpineView I loved this book! It is one of my all time favorites! 1w
