#weekendreads

I‘m primarily only reading the tagged Mother Doll. It‘s a library ebook and I am at 50%, will hopefully finish this weekend. 🤞

Nancy Drew ,is of course. for this month‘s #NancyDrewBR .

The rest are from my #10BeforeTheEnd pile and I have a t least read the first chapter of each. I will try to prioritize Altes Land since it works for November‘s #TBRTarot prompt.

I've been meaning to read Time And Again for ages so it's nice to get a push in that direction from it being my #BookSpin. My #DoubleSpin is "nonfiction." At the moment I'm thinking this one but that might change.

Aims42 I really enjoyed “Time and Again”. It isn‘t my normal read, I hope you like it too 😄 5d

Journalist Kostyuchenko is also a lesbian, apparently giving her government multiple reasons to target her. Yet here she is unafraid to show what truly happens on the ground in Russia while showing a deep love for her country and its people. This is searing and tough to read but excellent.

This book goes in depth on Putin: his history, how he sees the world, his behavior. It is almost 10 years old so is a little dated, but remains an excellent exploration of a consequential man. It‘s dense but not in a bad way. I learned a lot.

Here are my corresponding books for the numbers drawn for October. Two of the numbers are the same as September, so I get another crack at the ones I didn‘t read last month! #ReadYourEbooks

The sequel to The Revolution of Marina M follows Marina through the civil war after the 1917 Revolution in Russia through the lens of the Silver Age poets and Maxim Gorky. Beautifully written, impeccably researched. Not quite as thrilling as the first book.

I picked this up at the National Book Festival after hearing the author speak. The son of dissidents who fled the USSR, he traveled to Russia to work as a TV producer, documenting feel good stories while observing the darker undercurrents of power, money and oppression in the years preceding Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea. A fascinating and prescient glimpse of individual lives against the backdrop of Russia's return to authoritarianism.
