I enjoyed this book and how it used a youth sports competition in Reno, NV to frame the lives of the 8 contestants. The last chapter was a little weird, maybe? But Reno is a weird place, so whatever I guess. #tob #tob2025 #tob25

My very messy February list. I‘m working on reading down my TBR, various challenges, and getting ready for #TournamentofBooks2025. My free spaces will be devoted to more #TOB2025, my big stack of ARCs, and of course the #NancyDrewBuddyRead. February is a short month but my list is long. Just saying I could use another blizzard.

TheBookHippie I could be snowed in again. 😂 4d
sarahbarnes I would definitely take a blizzard. 😆 4d

This was my most anticipated #TOB2025 title. I live in a city in Virginia with a large Ethiopian population so I thought I would learn more about my new neighbors. Haha no. That‘s not at all what this was. This was a fever dream that jumped all over the place and I‘m not even sure what happened to be honest. I‘m not mad. Just confused. Still a pick, but don‘t ask me any questions 😂

TrishB Great review 👍🏻 4d
squirrelbrain Ha! Perfect review! 4d
CarolynM I‘m reading this at the moment. Not sure what to make of it yet, but your review gives me hope🙂 1d
Bookwormjillk @CarolynM you just kind of need to go with it. 1d

Finally, my in-hand so-excited-for hardcover edition of #ToB favorite! Posed with a cooperative Copper - look at that face! Starting this as my last #ToB2025 entry that I am sure I devour but want to savor and not pressure through #ifyouknowwhatImean. Through my reading, I am having a lovely January ❄️ 🌟

Btw, Jan 23 is National Pie Day! 🥧 grab a slice 😁

Isn‘t this just THE cutest pic of my dear departed Esther? My current iPhone‘s screensaver. So, I am 5+ minutes in so far and will listen as I walk Copper or drive to/fro from work. Am just ready to endure this mediocre white boy. #LFG #ToB2025

Librarybelle ❤️❤️❤️ 1w
BkClubCare @Librarybelle - all good, she is a fabulous heart-warming memory and will have a beautiful piece of my heart. A wonderful dog. Now we spoil Copper! 💖 1w

Such a creative approach to writing about a topic that (obviously) terrifies and infuriates me. I went in expecting one kind of story and was very surprised by the twists and turns of this one. A fun read and a light pick for me. #TOB2025

BarbaraBB You‘re doing great with the ToB. Again, I feel the same about the book as you do 2w
sarahbarnes @BarbaraBB there are a handful that I don‘t think I‘m going to read off the shortlist - I just don‘t feel like it. I think Orbital might be the last one I read. 1w
BarbaraBB Me too. I haven‘t read about four of them and don‘t think I will. 1w

This was a book that absolutely did not grab my attention, I sensed an unreliable narrator who does things that make no sense; I went into it thinking it might be a devastating immigrant story, but once I put it down and then a few days go by, and then when I do open it back up with low motivation and hit a snag (drawn curtains are closed! Not open), WHAT DO I Do? I find many of my friends loved it. #sigh A case of “it‘s me, not the book.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I didn‘t love this. The writing was engaging and I got through it quickly but I just did not connect with the MC. There were some interesting pieces of commentary about women‘s sexuality and relationship structures and menopause, but by the time they came around I wasn‘t willing to give the MC a pass for being a self-absorbed jerk. #ToB2025 #ToB25

CarolynM Yep. 3w
TrishB Accurate description of said MC. 3w
Larkken Haha, agreed 3w

A better picture of AllTheBooks that came in from being on hold at once at the library. Jeez, that‘s what I get for trying to game the system and have future holds to look forward to! 😅
My pup looks unimpressed by the future distractions for my time…
Currently reading and enjoying the tagged for #tob2025

DogMomIrene If you‘re not a fast reader, hopefully you can renew a bunch. That‘s what‘s saved me before. And Libby‘s “deliver later”. 2w
Larkken @DogMomIrene right? We'll see. It's always funny how my reading priorities change when I get a "cannot renew" message ? too bad there's no airplane mode on physical books? ? 2w
DogMomIrene @Larkken 😂😂😂 2w
BkClubCare I would make the gamble that Book Censor‘s Library will read fast, if that helps? (Seeing that this post is a week old, how are you doing? 😁) (edited) 2w
Larkken @BkClubCare good to know! I finished one and am almost done with a second… and got two more books from hold. So. 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ honestly I‘m trying not to read too fast this year so am just taking things as they come! 2w

I liked this strange collection of stories - another satisfying read from the #TOB2025 longlist that I may not have picked up otherwise. In some ways they reminded me of Carmen Machado‘s story collection that I loved - bizarre events presented in a matter of fact style that I am really drawn to.

Liz_M Oooooh similar to CMM? I'm in. 4w
squirrelbrain I‘m just not drawn to this for some reason. I *can* get it from the library but I don‘t even feel like trying it. 🤷‍♀️ 4w
TheKidUpstairs I loved this collection. I'm not generally a huge fan of short stories, but this one was something special! 4w

BarbaraBB If you and @TheKidUpstairs loved it I can‘t resist it. Stacking! 4w
sarahbarnes @Liz_M I‘ll be interested to see what you think of that comparison if you read it. It was just something about the vibe. 4w
sarahbarnes @squirrelbrain I get it - I feel that way about a few from the list, even ones that others like. I can‘t make myself pick them up. 4w
sarahbarnes @TheKidUpstairs good to know you liked it, too. @BarbaraBB I‘ll be interested to hear what you think if you try it! 4w
Reggie I love Machado, also last year or the year before they had a collection of short stories all about lesbians and climate change and I loved it. Stacked. 4w
sarahbarnes @Reggie I love that collection so much! 4w
