Mehso-so

If you enjoy history, especially about women‘s lives, this is densely populated with information. Its comedic attitude helps the bitter realities go down more easily. I thought it was funny. Until it was just overwhelmingly sad and depressing. The misogyny, people.

BarbaraTheBibliophage @Gezemice Oh well, it‘s no problem really. I think some books are dependent on the timing of when you read them. And I have some weird baggage with all that Victorian language from the quotes. The cult / religion I grew up in used a book full of gobbledygook in that style. Every time I read language like that, I feel blocked and triggered. Just figuring this out after being out of that cult for 30 years. Go figure. 6y
Gezemice @BarbaraTheBibliophage Oh I am sorry! Yes, I understand, I sometimes cannot read some books because they are too painful for some personal reason. Such as rage or calling people names like the r word. I could not finish “The Man Who Took His Wife For a Hat” for that reason. 6y
Gezemice @BarbaraTheBibliophage I am listening to “The Woman in White” and it seems like this book in action - how full a control a husband exerted over his wife, and how much a woman was to the mercy of men - guardians, husbands - is at the core of this otherwise exciting mystery. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Gezemice It‘s all good. I sold the book to my fav used book seller and have moved on! 🤪 Thanks for the heads up on The Woman in White. I‘ve got it on my Audible shelf—now I know to wait for a while before tackling it! (edited) 6y

Flirting will ruin you and shorten your life, whether you‘re male or female. Worse effects for females though. No flirting!

Quite a few good laughs in tonight‘s reading. I have no wish to time travel any earlier than 1960.

I‘m very glad to be in my super comfy (and a little goofy looking) pajama pants while I read about outhouses, corsets, and super dirty streets. And wine because I want it. Not because it‘s safer than massively contaminated water.

LeahBergen 😂😂 Right? That‘s how I felt reading this book. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @LeahBergen Oh yay—it‘s not just me! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds great! Let‘s definitely move forward and not go back again to that! 6y
Gezemice You are not wearing your corset at home? How dare you be so slovenly. This can ruin your life! (there is a story about that later) 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Gezemice I‘m definitely a slattern. Proud of it! 👊🏻🤣 6y
