Lcsmcat I just started down the rabbit hole of online video lectures about Wordsworth last night. I learned this poem in elementary school, but by the time I was in high school the Romantics were out of favor. I feel like there‘s a real hole in my knowledge. 6y
EadieB @Lcsmcat I love Wordsworth. I have a whole collection of his poems! Enjoy your study of him! 6y
Velvetfur I have to admit I'm not generally into poetry but I have always loved this one 😊 6y

Crazeedi I learned this poem in second grade! And can still repeat it from memory. Funny how that was a big thing in elementary schools years ago-memorizing poems. "The Cow" was the first one I ever memorized @Lcsmcat 6y
Dragon I learned this one from Sunday morning cartoons. 😂 6y
Herschelian I think it is a pity that children today do not learn some poems by heart. (BTW I am not in the USA) Later in life it is a real joy to remember a poem or two. Back in my day (over 60yrs ago) we learnt quite a few. The one that comes to mind most often is ‘Ozymandies‘ - thought of it when Saddam Hussain was toppled, think of it now when Trump bores on about building a ‘great wall‘!! 6y

Day 21: #wander #wandering #wanderer @LazyDays #poetrymatters #poetry

This is from my high school literature textbook. I fell in love with this one, and it was the 1st time I realized that people centuries ago felt the same emotions and passions that we do now. Human nature hasn't changed. A different translation: http://www.aimsdata.com/tim/anhaga/WandererMain1.htm?p=1548061026867

zsuzsanna_reads Thanks for this! 6y
zsuzsanna_reads Just read it and the free translation is not nearly as good. I'll have to find a book that has this. 😍 6y

Emilymdxn This is the poem that made me want to study medieval literature! Love it so much 6y
TiredLibrarian @zsuzsanna_reads I know - I couldn't find this translation online, and the one in my book has so many notes around it that it's hard to read! 😕 6y
TiredLibrarian @Emilymdxn ❤ Did you study medieval lit? That would be so interesting! I waited throughout my undergrad years for a Chaucer course to be offered & missed it (they ran it the year after I graduated😕) 6y
Emilymdxn Oh that‘s so disappointing! Yeah my degree was English literature but I only studied medieval, I did old English, Middle English, textual history, historical linguistics, medieval welsh, medieval romance and a dissertation on medieval dream visions - so very medieval! 6y
Cathythoughts This is amazing ... love your notes & love the words ♥️👍🏻 6y
