“I can feel it growing inside me!”

This story follows a color scheme which makes the illustration seem very uniform and flow together. The illustrations are not too complex and easy to interpret, which would be great for younger grades. It is very cute and entertaining

This book is about a crocodile that loves watermelon and eats it for every meal of every day. Then the crocodile realizes that it swallowed a watermelon seed and thinks a watermelon will grow inside of its stomach and it will turn into a watermelon. The crocodile then burns up the seed and says it will never eat any again, maybe just a little bite though. This story is very cute but seems to be more for the younger elementary audience.

Who else thought they would grow a watermelon in their stomach if they accidentally swallowed a seed? I know I did! The watermelon seed by Greg Pizzoli is a fun MF story about a crocodile who loved to eat watermelon… suddenly he swallowed a seed... he begins to imagine the worst! Will his stomach grow? Will vines grow out of his ears? Will he eat watermelon again? Check out this Geisel Award-winning book to find out! #ucflae3414su20

Viviannef I would use this story as an RT for young readers to promote fluency and it‘s a funny story that the children will love! UDL principle 5.3 Build fluencies with graduated levels of support for practice and performance and ESOL strategy 16 Integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities. Using the story as an RT will help with reading with expression. 4y
Viviannef This resource provides great ideas for teachers to use in their classrooms using this book! The teacher may use the story in a reader‘s theatre and emphasizing the exclamation points to read with expression. The resource also provides fun activities such as storytelling, discussion questions, and the idea of a melon tasting party! http://www.theclassroombookshelf.com/2014/02/2013-geisel-award-winner-the-waterm... 4y
Ameyer32 Love the text-to-self connection. I remember my brother cried because he thought he would grow a watermelon in his belly. RT is a good choice for this book as well as ST. 4y
DrSpalding Universal design principle 5.3 is perfect for readers theater. This Geisel award winner would be a wonderful addition to your primary classroom. 4y

The Watermelon Seed is a cute, humorous picture book about a crocodile who loves watermelons but is fearful of swallowing a watermelon seed. This F, Theodor Suess Geisel award winning book is written and illustrated by Greg Pizzoli.
This book would be great for a RA because of its humorous storyline, it will have students entertained. Here is a link for a RA that students can follow along with: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Gp9F50QzRa0

The EL strategy 16 about integrating speaking and listening activities and UDL guideline 5.3 about building fluencies with support align with this book and RA.

The author and illustrator of Watermelon Seed is Greg Pizzoli. This book is very light humored and fun. It‘s about a crocodile who loves watermelon, ate a seed, and thought he was going to turn into a watermelon tree, turn pink, and be put in a fruit salad. After he burped it out he said he‘d never eat it again and then ate watermelon right after. It‘s super vibrant and the colors are bold so it definitely would attract kids. #ucflae3414f19

alexblanco The genre is realistic fiction and it won the Theodore Seuss Geisel Award in 2014. A teaching strategy I‘d use for
This book would be RA. It seems like an entertaining book to read and use good intonation to capture the students attention.

alexblanco The standard I‘d use would be the one that follows: https://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewStandard/Preview/5678. It deals with describing the relationship between the illustrations and the story which I thought would be great for this book because there‘s so many illustrations that help form the story line. 5y
alexblanco An EL strategy I would use is to promote cooperation (small groups) because other students can help them if they are having a hard time. A UDL strategy I‘d use is to guide appropriate goal setting. This is important because some kids might get off task with such a fun story but it is significant to ensure that they have a set goal and achieve it. 5y
DrSpalding I agree the front cover would attract students to this award winner! Promoting cooperation and guiding appropriate goal setting can work well with many read aloud selections. 4y
