Pickpick

I wish there was a rating between a Pick & a So-So. If there was,I would put this book in that category, because it was slow for me to get into.
A friend of Brunetti‘s wife asks his help in determining if her tern son uses drugs.Almost immediately after this request, his father is found unconscious on a bridge that results in a life altering brain injury.Brunetti investigates. Are these crimes connected? The ending result is a surprise for me.

P647

I'm definitely going to use this line the next time I need to extricate myself from a conversation that has gone on too long. #infinitejestbuddyread #week11

Just when I think I've read ahead, I realize that I'm actually behind. Spring Break happened, with flights and travel that made it impossible to bring DFW along for the ride. To my surprise, I really missed this story and found myself thinking of it while away.

@Hooked_on_books question of the week: what is the point of all the graphic violence in this week's section?

Visit her page to see the full question and answer in either place

BookwormM The violence has ramped up over the last few sections I am wondering if it is leading to a full scale conflict between the USA and Quebec. 8y

#InfiniteJestBuddyRead #Week11 Discussion Question. Here goes: Pretend you're a psychiatrist. Pick a character and give them your best diagnosis! ? I'm going to go with Lenz: Antisocial Personality Disorder (Mayo Clinic: "People with antisocial personality disorder typically have no regard for right and wrong and often disregard the rights, wishes and feelings of others." I'm sure he could have other diagnoses but I liked that one the best.

Skeebies05 Hal : Major Depression. A mood disorder that causes persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest. I'm thinking of how he is isolating himself more and his tennis is suffering. Perhaps from a lack of interest and of course his escalating drug use. 8y
Hooked_on_books Orin: Narcissistic Personality Disorder. An excessive need for admiration, disregard for others' feelings, and a sense of entitlement. I'm sure his "subjects" would agree. 8y
AshleyHoss820 @Skeebies05 I agree! Especially how in the end of this week's section, he didn't seem to have much of an appetite! 8y

AshleyHoss820 @Hooked_on_books I can totally see that for Orin! Maybe throw in a little Oedipus complex for good measure? 😄 8y
JenP Well, I am a psychologist so perhaps that is cheating. I'll take an obvious one, Kate Gompert and classic major depressive disorder with cannabis use disorder. Lenz does sound antisocial to me. 8y
AshleyHoss820 @JenP How awesome!! I had no idea! I think the insight is more fascinating that it is cheating! 😄 I agree about Kate! (I may or may not have been to a few counselors in my rough teenage years...) I'm still trying to figure out Don Gately! 8y
BookwormM My question who do you think has the original cartridge does it even exist? The wheelchair assassins are obviously hunting it down but are they on the right track. Orin is obviously a suspect so did Himself keep it in the family? 8y
AshleyHoss820 @BookwormM That's a good question! They may be on a wild goose chase because I'll bet money Himself was buried with it! 😜😊 8y

This actually made me sad. Reading this made me feel a wave of nostalgia. My sister and I used to stay up late to watch Nick @ Nite. We'd watch Dragnet, The Dick van Dyke show, Mary Tyler Moore, Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jeannie...my children will never know this. Any time they want to watch something, we just go to Netflix. It's a pro and a con, of course. Also, I can't believe how prescient DFW was. #infinitejestbuddyread #week11

Abailliekaras Me too! You would be forced to watch the summer re-runs - but everyone was in the same boat. 8y
AshleyHoss820 @Abailliekaras Yes! When there was an all-day marathon of your favorite show, that was the jackpot! 😄 8y
britt_brooke I used to watch the heck out of Gilligan's Island and Bewitched returns. 💙 8y
AshleyHoss820 @britt_brooke Yes!! They were SO good! I loved Samantha's Mom! 😄I found out she used to be the voice of Margot Lane on the old Shadow radio program. Loved it! 8y

This week it's your turn to come up with one discussion question based on this week's section. You may pose your question any time during the week or wait until the end of week discussion. It can be a question requiring analysis, a funny prompt for others, a clarification request, etc. Be creative.

Make sure you try answering a few questions too!

Robothugs I am so proud of all of you who kept going! 8y
JenP @Robothugs it's been fun 😊 8y
Robothugs One day I will tackle this giant... it just wasn't in the cards for me. 8y

Abailliekaras Sorry @JenP I have missed the recent discussions, I'm still reading! Still loving it but had a break to read some other books 😬 now at p627. 👍 am wondering about friendship... 8y
tstan Back to Joelle: She is featuring more in this section, and it makes me wonder why she's really wearing that veil. Is it because her beauty is the addictive substance in the film, or is she really disfigured? 8y
LittlePixels @tstan I keep wondering the same thing, but somewhere in this week's reading they referenced something like when she "got disfigured". Yet Gately saw a little bit under her veil and what he saw looked normal. I'm so confused... 8y
Mtroiano @tstan @LittlePixels i am wondering if it isn't her face that is disfigured. Maybe she uses the veil to distract from another part of her body that is disfigured? 8y
Kristelh I thought she was maybe disfigured, too. But the more I read and thought, I wonder if her disfigurement is that she is too perfectly beautiful that she considers it a disfigurement. Plus, I wonder if she is the actress in the video that is causing people to go catatonic. 8y
BookwormM I think she is the actress in the film. I also think based on the violin incident that music will also have something to do with the film. 8y
