It‘s here!! #InfiniteJest

Cinfhen Yowza!!! #YouGoGirl 2y
britt_brooke The chunkster of all chunksters! 🤩 Are you starting soon? Do you have page flags? A notebook? 😅 It‘s a lot of work, but so worth it. (edited) 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen 😀😀💜 2y

LeahBergen @britt_brooke I always think fondly of our reading it together! 🥰 2y
Megabooks @britt_brooke I need to finish up my read of The 1619 Project before I take another long read on. So probably late this month or next. 👍🏻👍🏻 what are my IJ must haves?? 2y
Megabooks @LeahBergen I remember that buddy read and I had huge fomo. I guess I‘m finally getting to it. 😉 I‘m glad it was so fun for you!! 😀 2y
britt_brooke @LeahBergen Me, too! 💚 A reading experience like no other! 2y
britt_brooke @Megabooks The only real tips I have are to read slowly, carefully, and take notes. You‘ll probably want a couple of books marks, too. I used one as usual, but a second one to mark where I was in the footnotes which are long, intense and full of clues/information. You‘ll be flipping back and forth quite a bit. Watch for patterns. Colors, for example. I remember a color being mentioned on nearly every page. It‘s such a complex read. 2y
britt_brooke @LeahBergen Who else read it with us besides our incredible leader @JenP ? It‘s driving me mad that I can‘t remember! 2y
AmyG Good for you! I am so intimidated by this book which I have had forever. 2y
LeahBergen @Megabooks I tell ya… it was reading it with a group that made me finish it! I‘d recommend setting a weekly page goal (nothing too high) and just keep forcing yourself onwards. It DOES pay off. 😆😆 And like @britt_brooke said, definitely keep a tab in the footnotes section. You‘ll be flipping there a LOT. 2y
LeahBergen @britt_brooke I was trying to remember, too, and attempted to scroll back on here to see. 😆 I think @Simona and @Hooked_on_books and who else? 🤔 2y
britt_brooke @LeahBergen YES! Ok, I just found our tag #infinitejestbuddyread - there are over 600 posts! 😂😂 I‘m tempted to read them all. (edited) 2y
BarbaraBB Wow Meg, how cool! 2y
LeahBergen @britt_brooke 🤣🤣 I just reread a bunch of them! 2y
Hooked_on_books Yep, I was part of that, @LeahBergen @britt_brooke ! I never would have finished without the buddy read! In the end, I was not a fan, but glad I was able to finally get through it (and get it off the shelf!). 2y
britt_brooke @Hooked_on_books Even though I loved it, I doubt I‘d have gotten through it without the group either. It‘s so dense! 2y
JenP I loved it too but definitely a large part of it was reading it with all of you 2y

I got the idea for this post when I met up with my Nashville Littens earlier this year. @britt_brooke mentioned doing an Infinite Jest buddy read and it got me to thinking about how big books can be challenging. So thanks to her and the rest of the cool women that day for all the great book talk. We need to have another #nashvillemeetup soon!

Soubhiville I‘d love to try to make the next one! I‘m in Knoxville. 6y
LouLouLane I was going to send an email out this week to see if we can pick a date for another get together. It‘s been too long! 6y

LouLouLane Oh and love the idea of a buddy read! 6y
britt_brooke This just made my day! 🤗 Great article and good advice! Infinite Jest was long, hard, and complicated. Being able to discuss with @JenP (our host), @LeahBergen, and several others was such an amazing experience. 6y
Booksnchill @louloulane I am up for both! 6y
LeahBergen @britt_brooke I feel like I can take on ANY huge read after our victory over that one. 😆😆 6y
britt_brooke @LeahBergen That‘s no lie!! 😆🙌🏻 6y
JenP @britt_brooke aw, I feel the same way. I wouldn‘t never have made it through the book without all of you! 6y
HeatherBookNerd @britt_brooke I remember what an impact that #infinitejestbuddyread had on you when you told us about it. I love how people share books and reading experiences ❤️ That‘s why Litsy is so awesome. 6y
Cortg Yay! I love this! 6y
mom2bugnbee Yes! Yes, we do! 😘 6y
mom2bugnbee Just read your article - great stuff, Heather! 6y

Infinite Jest (-20th Anniversary) | David Foster Wallace

I followed the #infinitejestbuddyread with interest last year, cheering on participants from the cheap seats. On CBC‘s The Next Chapter, Randy Boyagoda spent an entertaining 12 minutes explaining to Shelagh Rogers why it‘s the greatest Canadian novel written by an American. You can listen here: http://www.cbc.ca/listen/shows/the-next-chapter/segment/15521919

britt_brooke Interesting listen - thank you! 6y
Simona External life was at the end to much for me. I thought it was, in some ways ‘to American‘ for me and I didn‘t understand all references, symbols ... I agree with everything what was said, and I do think that this book is a great achievement, but I didn‘t like it, at all ... and thank you for the link 😘 (edited) 6y
Lindy @Simona you‘re welcome. I don‘t think I will ever read it myself. 6y

Lindy @britt_brooke You‘re welcome. 😊 6y
LeahBergen Ooo! I‘ll give this a listen later today. Thanks! 👍🏻 6y
Abailliekaras Fantastic I‘ll take a listen! 6y
LittlePixels I love how he describes the experience as "exhilerausting". I concur. When I saw that you tagged me on this, I thought "oh no, she's doing another buddy read. I'm not sure I'm ready yet!" ? Thanks for sharing, @Lindy 6y
Lindy @LittlePixels Yes, exhilarausting is a great word invention. I must remember to use it if an appropriate situation comes up. I know the occasion will NOT be the reading of Infinite Jest, because that won‘t be happening. 6y

Pickpick

Sooo here I am again for the third time and I‘m still certain I haven‘t finished reading this book 🙈 this time through I set the book out chronologically and anyone wanting to re-read it a different way I highly recommend this it made me notice a load of things I‘d previously missed but in short I adore this book and am certain withdrawal pangs will kick in shortly 😂

Abailliekaras I read it for the first time last year with the Litsy #infinitejestbuddyread and loved it so much. Not ready to re-read yet. 😂🤓 6y

Mehso-so

I finished!
I started this with the @Jess7 #infinitejestbuddyread (was it Jess?- it seems like a decade since we started it) but fell off the wagon. After putting it aside for several weeks, I came up with a monthly page goal in order to finish by the end of the year.
I can't say I would recommend it to anyone but I suppose it depends on the person. There were parts that I loved and could have read a whole book about. I will miss the characters.

Cinfhen Congrats 🎉 it‘s a definite #chunkster 6y
jhod Good effort! 6y
britt_brooke Glad you finished ! @JenP was the buddy read host. 😉 6y
britt_brooke @Bloomingjen 👍🏻👍🏻 6y

@britt_brooke Congrats! You were randomly selected to win the final prize.

Congrats to everyone who finished the #infinitejestbuddyread this spring! Finishing the book is really its own reward. I had a blast reading with all of you. Maybe another buddy read in the fall? What would you want to read?

JenP I @britt_brooke send me an email: jenlane3(at)yahoo.com so we can discuss sizes and color options. And I'll need your mailing address. 7y
