Water for Elephants
Water for Elephants: A Novel | Sara Gruen
When Jacob Jankowski, recently orphaned and suddenly adrift, jumps onto a passing train, he enters a world of freaks, swindlers and misfits in a second-rate circus struggling to survive during the Great Depression.A veterinary student who almost earned his degree, Jacob is put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It is there that Jacob meets Marlena, the beautiful equestrienne who is married to August, a charismatic but violently unpredictable animal trainer. Jacob also meets Rosie, an elephant who seems unmanageable until he discovers an unusual way to reach her.Water for Elephants is a story that has it all - warmth, humour, poignancy and passion. It has an energy and spirit like the feeling under a big top when the show is about to begin. It is a novel that will win your heart.

You were right @LoverOfLearning and @Come-read-with-me – it‘s a lovely book. Even though I didn‘t fall too much for the love story but for the goings-on in the circus 🎪.

I loved Rosie 🐘 (of course) and Kinko 🤹🏼‍♂️.

No outstanding book but good entertainment.

LoverOfLearning Okay good review! How did you enjoy the ending? It made me smile and feel almost relieved for him. 4d
Buechersuechtling @LoverOfLearning To be honest, I‘d love if my family, friends and maybe myself would be that gifted. Reach such a high age, being relatively autonomous and witty plus having such an opportunity. 😍 Yeah, I liked it‼️ (edited) 4d

@LoverOfLearning Look, what I chose after I “The Giver” doesn‘t play properly. 😊

I started yesterday. Thanks to a long car ride I am already about two of its seven hours in. And yes, I think it will be okay – although I was surprised after I understood the meaning of the title (or at least _think_ I did understand it. 😂)

Years ago, when it was made into a film I thought: “Boooring!” and didn‘t want to watch it or read the book it‘s based on.

Curiouser_and_curiouser I just bought this last week in an opshop book haul, under the high recommendation of a lady in the shop 6d
Curiouser_and_curiouser I'm looking forward to reading it. Enjoy!! 6d

#booked2019 #booktomovie . For about 3/4 of this book I thought I was going to give it a so so. I didn‘t really love the story or the characters and thought it was pretty slow, but the ending definitely picked up and I liked how it ended. It took awhile but it earned a pick.

Cinfhen I‘ve meant to see the film, only read the book. I bet it‘s better on the big screen. 4mo
Jeannineth I didn‘t like the movie only the book. I read it when it came out years ago and I still think of the story and characters from time to time. It impacted me. 4mo

Started this audiobook today.. and it‘s a good story so far... but there is a strange squeaking on the audio.. has anyone else experienced this? I thought my car was making noise at first.. but it was coming from the audiobook. 🤔 it‘s making me a little crazy and I might need to abandon the audio.

mydearwatson I don‘t remember hearing that when I listened to it 🤔. (edited) 5mo
Kaila-ann I don‘t remember a squeaking when I listened to this title either 🤔 5mo
MelissaSue81 @Kaila-ann @mydearwatson - hmm. Well I was just listening on my phone speaker and didn‘t hear it but when I put it through the cars Bluetooth I hear it.. maybe something weird with the frequencies. It‘s driving me a little crazy though!! 5mo

Thought it was a fine story— the “frame story” aspect of the flashbacks was a little cheesy for my taste, but I know many people who love that in their books! (Think The Notebook...) fine story, liked some of the characters, was exactly what I thought it would be. Maybe I‘ll watch the movie next!

Loved this tea house/café though! Reminded me of my time in Paris. A must-do if you‘re looking for a cozy and cute place in HTX! (Café Poêtes)

This is my IRL book club‘s choice for June... and one of the few times that I‘ve actually seen the movie before reading the book! The circus life is certainly no #Paradise- though I like the #FlashbackFun format of Jacob‘s story. But the violence against animals and people puts this one in the #MadeYouCry category for sure! #StarTrekSummerJune #JazzyJune #30JuneBooks

This has been on my to-read list for a long time and I finally got around to reading it. I‘m glad I did if only to get the book off the list. It was okay. It didn‘t live up to the hype for me though. Is this blasphemous in the literary world? I did like the younger Jacob‘s storyline but the older Jacob storyline was a distraction and didn‘t add to story.
