This book will bring the reader through a journey of hardships and triumphs. Here is a website to learn more about the choose kind challenge http://www.ccakids.com/challenge-accepted!.html #UCFLAE3414sp17

Koalas | Valerie Bodden
post image

This is a non fiction book that was free from Chick-fil-a. It has interesting facts about Koalas and tells where they come from. There are headings on the pages with lots of pictures. Children could look at more koala facts online http://www.animalfactguide.com/animal-facts/koala/ #UCFLAE3414SP17

LaurenMcl I always liked how Chick Fil A will have books a majority of the time in their kids meals. It definitely can help encourage reading. Not only do they do that, but they include a coupon for the full version which is nice. 8y
DrSpalding I truly like it when food chains include books in their kids meals. 8y
KennadyM I love how chick fil a does this! I have a whole stack of books like these that I read to my little cousins. 8y

The One and Only Ivan | Katherine Applegate
post image

This animal fantasy book rightfully won the Newbery Medal, because of all the emotion it evoked and the fact that it was based on a true story. Students will enjoy reading about the animal friends and creativity added into this fictional book. Afterwards, students could research the true story of Ivan and relate it to this book: http://www.flreads.org/Book_Award/extensions/Ivan.htm #UCFLAE3414sp17

DrSpalding This is a nice resource. I believe this is a powerful book for intermediate grade students to read. 8y
CharlotteG I. Love. This. Book. It was so moving and powerful. The message behind it was incredibly eye-opening too! 8y

Pickpick

This RF book has literally been added to my stack of books after hearing about this masterpiece, Out of My Mind, by Sharon Draper. I could feel myself becoming immersed in the life of Melody and feeling every emotion of anger and frustration as she did. This book is an absolute must read for everyone because all will come into contact with someone who is different, and will benefit from a new understanding. Resource in comments #UCFLAE3414SP17

AmberC This resource is a favorite, and will help teach student about people with disabilities that ties in with the book http://www.sadlier.com/school/core-literacy/teaching-students-about-disabilities... 8y
AmandaN I really want to read this book. My dad is quadriplegic and people automatically assume that he is mentally handicapped because he is severely physically handicapped. I feel that I would get a lot out of reading a book like this. Thanks for sharing 8y
JRQuintanilla I really NEED to read this book. I see it all over the place, and have yet to get into it. Thanks for reminding me! 8y

Owen | Kevin Henkes
post image

Ashton enjoyed giving me a summary of the book for each page after reading it once yesterday. This F book by Kevin Henkes is a Caldecott honor book that discusses a pet mouse named Owen with a common childhood blankey. A teacher activity for comprehension and prediction can be found here: http://thepicturebookteachersedition.blogspot.com/2012/09/owen-by-kevin-henkes.h... #UCFLAE3414SP17

CaitlinPVeal I like that you tried it out with a child. What a great idea! Prediction can be a fun one to do with a class so I'm glad to see you found a lesson on that. 8y
DrSpalding Way to go Ashton! 8y
AmandaN Great book and love how you read it with a child to get their perspective. 8y

This F book is an entertaining read, and had Ashton and I laughing throughout at the short story of the green pants. The sneetches story has a ride that goes through how the sneetches learn to get along and realize that it is ok to be different. The activity for this book is related to racism and acceptance found here: http://www.tolerance.org/lesson/anti-racism-activity-sneetches #UCFLAE3414SP17

DrSpalding Excellent site! Love the pics! 💜📚 8y

Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes | James Dean, Kimberly Dean

This Pete the Cat F book is geared towards K-2 students, with many exciting rhymes and use of capitalized phrases. In this book, Pete and his friend Gus try to find out who is stealing the cupcakes by looking at clues. There are many Pete the Cat book activities on this website http://www.petethecatbooks.com/activities/petes-cool-cupcakes/ #UCFLAE3414sp17

CharlotteG I love Pete the Cat! My favorite part about Pete the Car books is that they can help with counting strategies!! 8y
christinathorpe I love Pete the Cat as well! I think hands on activities, especially in the younger grades, is important for students to comprehend and apply what they know. 8y
Alisoncavicchi This class was actually the first time I heard of Pete the Cat (shocking I know), but he has already come up in my RED and EDG4410 classes as well. Definitely an excellent set of books to add to our classroom libraries 8y
