Very inspiring and informative!
Gorgeous little epistolary novel that grows on the reader slowly, building to a soft crescendo of an ending. It's a very warm story about war wives who become pen pals during WWII, but moreover, its about friendship. Definitely enjoyed it!
So real, so funny, so gripping that I couldn't sleep until I finished it. I'm talking about my heart hammering even while the narrator still managed to make me laugh - and even tear up once or twice. I became utterly invested in the lives of these characters, and the ending knocked my socks off.
This is a fantastic little summer read! It contains excellent travel writing, as well as genuine emotion and character development. Amy is the perfect travel companion for the reader, but then of course I love her - she's a neurotic theatre nerd! She felt like a very real girl, and reminded me a lot of myself. Even (especially) the supporting characters felt distinctive and lovable. I definitely recommend it!
Abandon ship! The prose is filled with juvenile exclamation points, a shallow narrator, choppy exposition, and crass stock characters. I got halfway through before I couldn't take anymore. I think it's supposed to be deep, an extended metaphor for spiritual struggles, and maybe even a Christian allegory, but it's so poorly constructed that I'm Audi. 👎🏼
It took me a while to decide that I liked it. Prose can be flowery and verbose, but Cornelia is so warm and clever that it's passable, and you'll enjoy hanging out with her. Clare's sections are unflinchingly vulnerable & deep, and the story kept me hanging on to the end.
Takes forever to get through, but is well worth the time and effort if you are interested in the subject matter. It's very informative, (mostly) objective (the author clearly hated Reagan??), and well-presented.
I'm only through chapter one, but I'm already enamored with this beautifully photographed and even more beautifully worded study of the book of Ruth. It is really a study of God's constant presence and guidance in the lives of His precious people.
This is one of the few series that finishes as strong as it started! I adore it and can't wait to read anything else Leigh Bardugo writes in the future.
P.S. Six of Crows reread will happen soon! 👍🏼
Leigh Bardugo keeps it going strong in this second installment, which is every bit as well-written and vivid as its predecessor, while managing to expand the universe we are in. She also introduces my favorite character, Nikolai. Brilliant read!
Sunshine, a super fun cup of coffee, and one of THE best YA books I have *ever* read. ❤️
What an incredibly powerful and empowering read about the extent of our thoughts/words & the importance of making them agree with God's Word. Joyce Meyer is one of my all-time fave Christian teachers, & this is a perfect example of why. I encourage everyone to read this. You will be glad you did!
My first foray back into reading comics since I was a little kid living in an apartment building across the street from a comic book store. Not going to lie, I felt a bit out of my depth with characters I don't really know/remember, but it was an intriguing story nonetheless.
An intelligent but quirky narrator, a renegade goat, ensemble characters worthy of Stars Hollow residency, everyday magic woven into the real world, a murder mystery... What's NOT to like??
It's a delight to hang out in one of Heather's worlds by the pool! 👍🏼
Percy Jackson is without a doubt one of my favorite characters in YA fiction. It's always a major treat when he pops up in any story. The Kanes are strong runners-up. It's fun to see Percy and Carter fight together, at once totally annoyed by & impressed with one another. It's all good!
"[Percy] spoke no command words; he had no staff or wand. He just stood there and looked up at the crocodile as if to say, "Here I am. I'm tasty." The crocodile seemed momentarily surprised. If nothing else, we would die knowing we'd confused this monster many, many times."
I love Percy AND Carter!
"I believe God is looking for people who will be stars and heroes for Him- people who go all the way through [tough times] and show others the way [to the fullness of joy and God's promises]. Jesus did it for us, and we need to do it for others."
"You believe what you say more than you believe what others say about you."
Powerful sentiment - gaining control of our words changes our attitudes and potentially our lives.
Always excited to start a new Riordan!
A very enjoyable, quick read from a favorite author, Max Lucado. It has elements of a It's A Wonderful Life/Field of Dreams faith story (which I love), and a lovely spin on the question of answered prayers. Max is a true light in this world, and it's always a treat to learn about God from him.
I recently found out that Tony Danza became a first year teacher the same year I did! I've always loved this guy, and while this book is not necessarily a captivating read, it does manage to depict an accurate snapshot of the modern teacher. It's funny, moderately inspiring, and sweet.
Still trucking through this 900+ page book, but I'm enjoying it immensely!
