4/5 As uplifting and heartbreaking as the film. Yet surprisingly different, written from Chief Bromden's perspective. Apparently Ken Kesey wanted nothing to do with the film when they diverted so significantly from his story.

4/5 After 6 months of drip-reading, I've finally finished this beast! Feeling more learned, I'm off to the nearest pub quiz! #History #NonFiction

Ditched. Because life's too short. Picked for #BookClub because we thought it'd be interesting to read something set in post-apartheid South Africa. Unfortunately, with no real plot to speak of, one's better off looking to the non-fiction genre to do this. Sadly, this was a chore to read. Improper sentences, unclear pronouns, limited use of punctuation - every other sentence had to be read two or three times to be able to follow!

4/5 pertinent reading for present times. This was totally gripping albeit I was somewhat dissatisfied with the ending. Can't wait to watch the tv adaptation which I expect might divert from the book. #DystopianFiction #Feminism #BookClub

4/5 Really liked this. A darker take on a genie and the lamp story. My only quibble is perhaps it ended quite abruptly and I was looking forward to a darker ending. #Classics #ShortStories

3/5 Good, but perhaps not as much action as I was expecting. It's amazing how, over the years, countless adaptations have skewed our understanding of the characters and plot so far away from the original text. #Classics #ShortStories

3/5 Thought-provoking, but sometimes a chore.

Some stories worked better than others, particularly those more philosophical or centred on faith - Tower of Babylon, Story of your life, Hell is the absence of God. Others drowned in a showcase of scientific jargon - Understand was a particular chore.

Also, Story of your life < Arrival.
