I started a new audio this morning on my way to work
"We seemed to be able to choose, then. We were a society dying, said Aunt Lydia, of too much choice."
-- The Handmaid's Tale, Margaret Atwood
So last night the branch of my pub library discussed THT. I was well prepared because since August I binged-watched all 3 seasons of the series, read the graphic novel, and then read the original just in time to read The Testaments along with the audiobook. My lib made this Claire Daines reading available to me. I had to go there. It‘s been years since I‘ve listened to an audiobook via CD and surround sound rather than phone. It was great!
An excellent way to reread a beloved modern classic and a cozy way to spend the afternoon on the first snow day of the season. This was perfect way to re-familiarize myself with the story before reading The Testaments. The artwork is spectacular! The graphic novel is not to be missed. In fact, if you loved The Handmaid's Tale, but have never read a graphic novel, I suggest starting with this one.
Disclaimer : I'm starting out as a big fan of the original Handmaid's Tale. I was curious to see how it would translate to an illustrated title. Pretty well I would say. People who have had trouble reading this story (and it is a difficult story) may want to try this version. It softens some things and heightens others but overall stays true to the original story. The drawings are amazing and the color red plays a staring role. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I don't have a lot of time for reading this weekend, so I'm not officially joining in on #24B4Monday #MrBook1inaMillion, but I thought I would see how far I could get in these three graphic novels before they are due back at the library next week. #readingonadeadline.
Congrats to @MrBook for reaching such an epic milestone!
I really have no idea why I waited so long to read this book! At one time I thought I wouldn‘t be interested in it, but when I started researching the book more it really grabbed my attention! The ending had me saying “Wait that‘s it?!” Now I‘m ready to read The Testaments and dive back into the story!
Environmental issues? Bad health care options ? I get upset when the dystopian seems to be coming true.
I loved it just as much as I had in highschool. This audiobook was amazing, listening to it now it was almost like a new experience! There were so many details I had forgotten. I can't wait for the testament to become available at the library ❤
Performed by Claire Danes
Ignoring isn‘t the same as ignorance, you have to work at it!
Ofred | The Handmaids Tale
One of those books that grows on you!
In her MasterClass, Atwood says, “When I wrote ‘The Handmaid‘s Tale‘ nothing went into it that had not happened in real life somewhere at some time. The reason I made that rule was that I didn‘t want anybody saying you certainly have an evil imagination, you made up all these bad things. I didn‘t make it up.” Seriously, she didn‘t. I am ashamed that it took me this long to get around to reading this novel. It was all I had hoped it would be, compelling, dark, uncomfortable and frustrating! I championed Offred but also wanted to shake her. Moira was a satisfying character! So pleased to hear that the sequel is now out- I had made my order!
Wow, this was excellent. Has anyone read The Testaments? Wondering if I should stop here. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Finally finished this novel! I struggled a little with the non-linear storyline and how it kept going back and forth. Maybe if it was structured a little differently or better I would have liked it more. In saying that, loved the cliffhanger ending!
Seems like I‘m only tempted to watch TV if it‘s based on a book I‘ve read 😂 this show is ok so far.... but I‘m on season 1 and they are cruising along with the story. I can‘t see how they‘re going to get 3 seasons worth out of the content 😶 Anyone else watching? Is it worth it to keep going?
Once in a while a book comes along that reminds you of exactly WHY you read in the first place: This was one of those books for me. It was so thought provoking, it make me evaluate my thinking on so many subjects. It was unique and shocking... yet scary and brilliant I simply could NOT put it down. Cant wait to read more books from this Author!

This was a suggestion from my #BookSister @sprainedbrain Thank you SO much! ♥️♥️
So it's been a month since I finished this, and the reason why I've waited this long to post is because there are simply some books for which the words to describe escape you. I feel so hostage to the wealth of emotions: rage, frustration, impending doom this book evokes; I am completely under-equipped to react.
So my book club chose The Testaments as our next read...but I had not yet read The Handmaid‘s Tale 🙄
I know, I am a lame Canadian and an even lamer feminist.
Okay, so I started this novel after I knew the series was out. I purchased a special dystopian cover hard cover edition and was so careful with how I was reading it, not opening the book wide and not creasing the pages.
I‘m trying again so I can read the sequel and then I will rewatch series before I was season 3.
Is anyone else that careful with new books, especially special edition ones?
I just spent the last three days binge watching all three seasons of The Handmaid‘s Tale and well, now I‘m obsessed so I think this would be a good time for a reread. Spring/summer 2020 can‘t come soon enough! #obsession
These are awful! 🙈😂🎃 https://bookstr.com/list/7-hauntingly-horrible-halloween-costumes/
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood is a wake up call for the future and for the rights of women. This book has given me a very different perspective on women's rights because for some people this book is a reality. I would recommend this book for people looking for something different then most books right now.
Finished the graphic novel version last night.

My book goal is eight books in 6 weeks. My fitness goal to start is working out 2 hours a week. I did two 45 min bike rides today. Starting the week of October 17th the amount of exercise I can do will be restricted due to medical reasons, so I think of a new goal when I get there, prob nutrition based.
It's probably been about 10 years since I read this book, and Atwood is one of my favorite authors. I listen to the audiobook to refresh my memory so I can read The Testaments. Claire Danes is an excellent narrator, and I was surprised by how similar the book was to the show.
Although I love graphic novels, I held off getting this one because I love Margaret Atwood‘s novel and wasn‘t sure how I‘d feel about it being adapted into a graphic novel. However, I ended up loving this because the artwork is so great.
