Squares, Rectangles, and Other Quadrilaterals by David A. Adler is a nonfiction children's book that introduces young readers to the concept of quadrilaterals, a type of polygon with four sides. Through clear, simple explanations and colorful illustrations, the book explores different types of quadrilaterals, including squares, rectangles, parallelograms, and rhombuses.

Today, I‘m sharing my haul from July.

1. Book sent to me from Riverhead Books

2. Book sent to me from Riverhead Books

3. Book preordered from Amazon. It has the light purple sprayed edges and it sounds like a book that I would like.

4. Candle ordered from Frostbeard Studio. It smells really good. I lit it inside the house when I didn‘t have power for 5 days during Hurricane Beryl.

So this came up in an automatic recommendation box as something I might be interested in and ...

I don't know man, what are you trying to say?

swynn I should add: yes, I know what Lie Theory is, just enough to make the recommendation not entirely from left field. Still it gives me a giggle 10mo

I always set my reading goal low so I don‘t have to really think about meeting it. Read so many good books last year 💕

I didn‘t set a number goal this year, & for those of you who pay attention to totals, I track children‘s books & graphic novels which I know many don‘t, so subtracting those would put my total closer to 140. I‘m MOST pleased that StoryGraph tells me 25% of my reading this year was nonfiction, & that 40% of my reading was content I owned (though next year I want to track just the books that have been on my physical shelves for a long time).

eeclayton Wow, congrats! 🎉 11mo

I highly recommend this book if you're a math teacher or just interested in math education. It seems that a number of schools here in Canada have started adopting some of the ideas, though it's a slow process as curriculum requirements are strict and resources are limited (at least here in Ontario).

kwmg40 @Smrloomis You're welcome I hadn't thought a math education book would be so interesting to people! 😄 1y
kwmg40 @DieAReader Thanks for stopping by! 1y
kwmg40 @mcctrish The author is at Simon Fraser U in Vancouver but did a lot of his classroom research in Ontario schools. I hope you'll find his practical tips helpful if you end up getting the book. Good luck with the upcoming school year! 1y
kwmg40 @Andrew65 I think this book is an excellent read for anyone interested in math education. (I have work colleagues in the UK and should learn to say “maths“!) I'm not a math teacher myself, but I work on math education software. 1y
kwmg40 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks for visiting! 1y

kwmg40 @mcctrish That's a good idea. It's great that PL worked with your board! Also, a friend of mine mentioned that, if you're a member of the Ontario College of Teachers, they have copies through their library for members. 1y
mcctrish Oh thanks ( and finally something good could come from my $200 donation ( I mean dues) every year 1y
kwmg40 @mcctrish A lot of my teacher friends feel the same way! 😆 1y
Andrew65 @kwmg40 I was a Primary school teacher, then head teacher so obviously taught and was responsible for all subjects. My favourite role was maths leader / coordinator and as head discussions about maths, as well as working with maths lead to agree our maths strategy. 1y
kwmg40 @Andrew65 Wow, you definitely have a lot of experience with math education! If you ever do pick up a copy of this book, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the ideas. I'm sure you'd have good insight to share. 1y
