A HF book by Lauren Tarshis about a boy named Chris Calley who takes a trip to see his uncle in New York City, when they see a jet crash into the World Trade Center. Chris tries to help his dad, who is a firefighter, to save injured citizens. This is a good book to bring up the discussion of the 9/11 attack, a permanent part of U.S history.

tfundora Looks like a very intense book and even thought the story of the character is not real it's cool to read a story about such a unforgettable experience American went throught during 911! 7y
DrSpalding Kids enjoy these books and they expose them to events that they should know about. In 2, 3, and 4 these could be used for quick literature circles! 7y
StephanieP This book is very intense! But I love how it can engage students and make them feel if they are being apart of the attack or in the same place as the character. Great book to read around 9/11! 7y

A Roald Dahl SF classic, is a story of an orphan Sophie whose was taken by a BFG into Giant Country. She soon befriends this friendly giant whose job is to deliver peaceful and pleasant dreams. This B book is beautifully written/ illustrated by Mordecai Gerstein. Its the tale of the aerialists Philippe Petit who in 1974 created a plan to walk on a tight rope between the twin towers while they were under construction. The story, based off real events, kept me invested and turning each page to see what happens next. Perfect for 1st thru 5th grade for read aloud or assignments.
