This anthology is such a great way to discover comics artists I haven't come across before. The variety and quality here is excellent. A wonderful new discovery for me is Cece Bell with an excerpt from her graphic memoir, 'El Deafo'. Now added to my reading list!

ChasingOm Yes! This book is so good!! 7y

I had stared at the old man, trying to see him as I had learned to see an unfamiliar plant, emptying my mind not just of all other plants I had painted before, but of all my assumptions about what a plant is—that it has a stem, that leaves come off at such and so an angle, that leaves, in fact, are green. Just so, I looked at the face of the butterfly man.

From Roz Chast's fabulous introduction:
"There was no eureka moment of "my horses came out wrong, but funny. Therefore, I'll be a cartoonist." No, no, no, no, no. But looking back, I might have thought that even if I couldn't draw a perfect horse, drawing a horse that could make me laugh that hard was not nothing."

I am loving this graphic novel so much and have been reading it way too fast. I love the movement back and forth between the three different storylines. The Monkey King in particular just knocks me out. And the way the curly clouds echo the curly hair that the young protagonist, Jin Wang, tries to copy...
