13 Reasons Why | Jay Asher

Mehso-so

I read the book last year and watched the Netflix series recently, and for the first time I've liked a TV show more than the book it was based on. Though I enjoyed the book and this interesting idea of audio tapes, I think the story lacked maturity and the issue of suicide could've been handled better (which the series does to an extent, while also addressing other issues).

EvieBee I wasn't a fan of the book at all, which is pretty rare for me, but my friend told me to check the show out. I just may have to! 7y
Faizah_Azam The show is definitely better than the book! They've made some good, interesting additions to the story. 7y

I have never been this enraged AND stumped after finishing a book! Just when I thought the roller-coaster is over and there could be a happy ending, Peter Swanson turned the tables in less than half a page and promptly said goodbye. This gripping read has some very well placed plot twists. I particularly loved it because of my love for crazy female characters who could run the world but settle for destroying human beings and ruining a few lives.

MicheleinPhilly YES! I loved this book so much. Easily the best thriller I've read in several years. 8y
Faizah_Azam Absolutely! I think I may have screamed a little when I read how it ends! I'd really appreciate it if someone could recommend any other books like this one. 8y

Pretty Girls: A Novel | Karin Slaughter

Pickpick

Pretty Girls is a disturbing yet captivating book. The story is told from three different point of views and it draws you in slowly. The book includes a lot of graphic violence and gruesome descriptions, which may be a little too much for certain readers and you'll probably want to put the book down for a bit. Nonetheless it was an engaging read. I loved Karin Slaughter's writing style!

Black Water Lilies | Michel Bussi

Black Water Lilies is one of the most unique thrillers I've read in a while. This book is beautifully written. The prose and the story are absolutely enchanting. I didn't know a murder mystery could be so poetic! The pace of the story is great. Michel Bussi successfully manages to keep you at the edge of your seat and just when you think you know what is going on, he surprises you with something completely unexpected! I would highly recommend it!

Dark Places: A Novel | Gillian Flynn

Pickpick

Gillian Flynn loves writing about crazy people!! You'll meet insane manipulative women and equally crazy useless men. None of them are likeable. You're not going to have a favorite character. It's a gruesome story that'll make you flinch, though you'll love it if you don't mind reading nasty stories. Also, make sure you're in your happy place when you read this one.

rachelm This book freaked me out! 8y
