In Arabian Nights | Tahir Shah
post image

After several years of intending to read this book I finally picked it up and cracked it open. I‘m glad I did. It‘s enchanting the way Tahir Shah weaves memories of his fathers stories with his new life in Morocco while he explores the culture and tries to find the heart of the country by finding its storytellers and learning their tales.

After being somewhat dissatisfied with my most recent fantasy novel, I made a snap decision to read something totally different. Azar Nafisi paints a haunting picture of the strength, resilience, uncertainty and desire for more of a group of women daring to study western writing in Iran. There is a sorrowful and hopeful beauty in her writing and her story.

Climbing Free: My Life in the Vertical World | John Long, Greg Child, Lynn Hill

I devoured this book. Not only is Lynn Hill an incredible climber (the first to free the Nose on El Cap in 1993) she has a talent for sharing her story in a profound and inspiring way. She is a world famous climber, but I can still relate to the way she describes her relationship with climbing, the desire to push yourself further and find yourself in harmony with the wall.

Pickpick

I don't usually read poetry but a friend loaned this to me. I found it incredibly beautiful and bittersweet. I finished it in a sitting but the feelings evoked linger.

I somehow missed this in my early teens and am making up for it now. It's definitely a fun read, I love the British slang.

I'm really enjoying the opportunity to read about great women in STEM fields and I really appreciated the very thoughtful introduction to this book!

This was a departure from the sci-fi/fantasy that I normally read. It's a book in which not much seems to happen but you can't put it down and come away contemplative and with a book hangover.

This book has drawn me in and is not only a good story but has gotten me very interested in the history of the Balkan countries where it is set!
