This book is so beautifully written and I love the fact it has 2 Parallel stories.
The idiosyncrasies of each individual character are so well defined and expressed in such ways that come across the page almost lyrically.
“I do not think, sir, you have any right to command me, merely because you are older than I, or because you have seen more of the world than I have; your claim to superiority depends on the use you have made of your time and experience."
Sing it, Jane. You tell him, you strong and awesome woman, you!
“Asterin smiled wider, kissed Manon‘s brow, and whispered again, “live.” “
The moon is a loyal companion.
It never leaves. It‘s always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Every day it‘s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human.
Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.
Can you be a girl for a few seconds?"
"I'm always a girl" I frown.
"You know what I mean. Like a silly, annoying girl"
I twirl my hair around my finger. "Kay.
Malcolm stares out the window, wishing he could glimpse Rufus on his bike turning a corner, and he finally cries, these loud, stuttering sobs, not because he‘ll now have a criminal record, not because he‘s scared to go to the police station, not even because Rufus is dying, but because the biggest crime of all tonight was not being able to hug his best friend goodbye.
Only just started this book and am already loving it. It hasn‘t quite broken my heart, it‘s just so raw and real, and a sadness and acceptance that well, they both die at the end.
The way the characters are developing is so beautiful and Mateo and Rufus‘s relationship is lovely.
In some places it‘s heartbreaking, ‘No matter how we choose to live, we both die at the end.‘
But in others humorous, ‘I can. I have the cure if death in my pants.‘

Let‘s live in the moment and make the most of our tomorrow‘s and

This gothic novel follows Marina and Oscar as they step into downtown Barcelona and become engulfed in mystery and dark secrets buried in the past. Set in post-war Barcelona, May 1980, this book is easy to get lost in.
It is told from Oscar‘s perspective, but we still get an idea of what Marina is feeling through Oscar‘s speculations. Marina comes to a definite and emotional ending where there can be no way for them to ever journey together again.
I‘m not just a girl, I‘m a steminist and a feminist who remembers the strong females of the past.
This is a truly beautiful book. It‘s written from the perspective of 4 protagonists each with their own past and characteristics. If your looking for a beautiful historical fiction book that blends with other genres then tho so for you!
“But I have told the truth. Isn't that ironic? They sent me because I am so good at telling lies. But I have told the truth.”
