I was just scrolling through IG & saw someone screenshot a post from rakeshsatayl that reads:
Someone should start an airline for book lovers that has a library onboard and call it Jane Air (& I am dead 😂 ☠)

I really enjoyed the beginning. But soon as she moved into the Rochester house, I could not deal with the amount of gibberish they talked! Everything was a metaphor, everything was some ‘floating feelings like the night sky on a summers day‘ whatever! Some example above^ If shorter and more to the point, this would‘ve been a pick for me. The end also was way too rushed. And last characters introduced way too late into the book, did not like it.

I wanted to read something Gothic and this satisfied that craving. A beautifully written novel but it also had plenty of shortcomings. There were many racist comments, the too-convenient plot resolutions. I found a lot of the story beats too overdramatic, even for a gothic novel. Jane, although sweet and relatable also comes off as an “I'm not like other girls“ type character because although she is not described as pretty men still desire her.

Good reading week aside from Friday. I Finished A Storm of Swords with the buddy reads group, which was really good. I am still making steady progress with Jane Eyre, I hope to finish it this upcoming week.

Taking out a lot of books that I am not really focusing on atm. Finished Emma this week and it was really fun and clever but I also expected more out of it. Picked up Jane Eyre after it, and I have been making steady progress with it. I'm pretty sure I will be finishing ASOS this week, so looking forward to that.

I hit the used bookstore lottery today with four incredibly-priced Cranford Collection editions - Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Little Women, and P&P. Heading home to giddily arrange these on my shelf. ❤️

Every time I finish this book I miss the characters instantly. Forever my favourite 🕯️👰‍♀️

I had not read this since I was a teen. It is sometimes difficult to read these books without overlaying today‘s social mores and attitudes. Jane is just so young. And whilst Rochester is nowhere near the worst of the heroes of these novels, I did not like the way he teased her and threw his relationship with other women in her face.
I listened to this as a prelude to re-reading Wide Sargasso Sea, which I previously loved.

Time to read some classic Bronte now.

Hi all - I want Jane Eyre to be my next book. In fact, I want to reread Beauty and the Beast at the same time to explore the thematic similarities. 📚 Can anyone recommend an edition with 12 point font? I struggle with many of the classic prints bc the fonts are often quite small. Thx

1. Jane Eyre - she just came along when I needed her most and I was so impressed by her.
2. Zofia (The Gilded Wolves) - she's just WOW! The way she faced her fears and grew is just amazing!
3. Gideon the Ninth/Harrow the Ninth/Nona the Ninth - they all sort of belong together and are just kick-ass in their own ways.

I also kept on thinking about Murderbot 😅

My book club picked this one as our first read of the year and I‘m looking forward to hearing what everyone thought tomorrow! I listened to it this time around and Thandie Newton‘s performance was really wonderful! Obviously no surprises but it was nice to remember parts that I had forgotten- and it‘s easy to see why this is one of the classics that continues to be popular as it is over 175 years old! Dear Reader, I loved listening to it!

Charlotte's writing is so beautifully descriptive and engaging and her world-building so engrossing that you can picture every element of the story so vividly. Her characters come alive on the page. Rochester has his issues, of course, but is also a well written, well developed, complex character and the story itself is a good one. I would definitely recommend it for someone who wants to get lost in a good book for a while!

Jane Eyre was on my wishlist for a long time. Glad that I waited to listen to this narration. Thandiwe Newton is brilliant - bringing the characters and the slow narrative to life.

Funnily, I read Wide Sargasso Sea before I listened to Jane Eyre. But, the competing narratives really offered a very well rounded experience. Recommend.

As an Indian it felt strange and frustrating listening to them romanticise colonisation and forced conversions.

One of the favorites, such a good reread! I missed this joy of unhurried rereading, when one already knows the story so well, there is no need to devour- only to savor.

I wanted to read this for a long time. But, once again another Bronte sister book I wouldn‘t say was a great love story. Both options for Jane were horrible. One only wanted a great worker and the other was manipulative. Mr.Rochester had some good qualities like actually loving Jane. I liked Jane‘s character a lot. She was strong and held to her principles. Also, the twist of fate, fortune and family was delightful. I enjoyed the book and ending.
