Fans of Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood should give this a crack. Breathing life into this true crime story is quite magical. And it's mind-boggling how less than 100 years ago, women were so disempowered. Grateful to be here in 2016, and thx Hannah Kent for the recommendation! (Also check out her novels)
When all your library requests turn up at once 🤗📚
Thx To Bookriot for the Read Harder challenge - Helen's book of essays about life are so wise but humble and moving ... I must call my mother!
Who knew fairies could be so much trouble! So sad, so interesting, and based on a true crime.
If you put adult fiction next to the kids fiction at the library, extra books are gonna be borrowed!
So much fun! Fans of the movie 'Clue', if you have never read this, you must!!
Superb. Excited to see Oprah take on the role of Deborah Lacks in the film - the Oscar is all but sewn up.
As I read, I flinched, I squirmed, my eyes welled with tears. I didn't want to be there but I couldn't look away. My new fave literary character is Mireille's mother-in-law, Lorraine - I wanna kiss her. 11 stars.
I so disliked the characters and had such a splendid time doing so ☺️ wonderful from go to whoa.
Even though I was a child of eighties, I somehow missed this film, while I was living on Neptune. But now that I've read the book I totally get the hype. Such fun, so witty, great adventure, too cute and tragic and classic. Love love love. Two thumbs up 👍👍
When I heard Kate Forsyth on the Conversations with Richard Fidler podcast I wished I had a Ph.D. in fairy tales - she was fascinating, and so was this tale of the girl who gave the Brothers Grimm a great number of their tales. Her story and her love for Wilhelm Grimm was incredibly moving 💕
So gripping. Can't believe how much I enjoyed the struggles of these fictional people ... I may need to speak to someone bout that 😁 I was mostly fascinated with the kids and how they'd been trained. It seemed impossible and possible at the same time. Wanted to give the mum a high five.
These people are adorable and the marriage between Greta and Einar/Lili is inspirational. Maybe with the unraveling of the safe schools program in Australia, a book like this should be added to the curriculum.
Thx bookriot for the goodreads ARCS giveaways idea! https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway. Here's hoping I get this one 😊
