The Night Circus
The Night Circus | Erin Morgenstern
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underwaya duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into lovea deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands. True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead. Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

5am paw patrol and The Night Circus. Everybody‘s happy, we‘ll as happy as you can be when you are up before the sun in a Sunday morning #toddlerlife

hannah-leeloo I know this life lol. At least it's paw patrol and not Peppa pig lol. 2d
Caroline2 I remember those days with a shudder!! It does get easier as they get older, I promise; my two got up at 730 this morning. That‘s like a lie-in for me now!! 😆 1d

Elizabeth2 I remember those days. Mine only get up before 10am if they have work or school now. 😂 Treasure this time, because it goes by so fast. I didn‘t believe it when moms told me that, and find myself longing for those days of snuggling before sunrise. ❤️ 1d
Magpiegem @Elizabeth2 I try to remember I promise 😂 but my oldest is 9 now and still gets up with the birds so it‘s been a long time since I‘ve has a late start. You are right though it suddenly feels like life with little people is going by really fast now the youngest is a walking, talking little tyrant. 1d

I really liked this. It's slow paced but sometimes I like that. The language got a little flowery at times but as a whole was beautiful and imaginative. I especially loved how the two timelines finally meet and you fully understand what's happening. The plot unfolds SLOWLY. It's full of mysteries and begs of the reader to take your time, digest what you've read.

Such a beautifully written book, the descriptions and scene building is wonderful.
Quite a slow moving book with not a lot of plot, but a nice, easy read. A definite palate cleanser.

It's one of my last lazy days - school starts Monday! I think this book is kind of perfect for me right now; I'm about 200 pages in and it's mostly been set-up but INTERESTING set-up. It's taking its time and I'm enjoying that, in this liminal space between holidays and classes.

Also, Minerva has become part of our holiday decor.

CBee Love that wreath! I almost made one this year but didn‘t have all the stuff 🤷‍♀️ 2w
TheatreSpaz @CBee I had SO much trouble finding a wreath I liked, then I walked in the front door of a store and saw this hanging across from me and was like "THAT ONE". I really want to make my own! There's a Michael's nearby that I frequent, might hit them up for supplies. 2w
Soubhiville What a great photo! 2w
CBee @TheatreSpaz I found pom pom makers on Amazon and a wreath frame too, but I also have this problem where I start things and never finish 😂😂 There‘s always next year! Or heck, maybe I‘ll just get the stuff and make it anyway. Doesn‘t have to just be for Christmas! 2w

Beautifully written and creative!! I have had this book for a while but did not read it until now. Don‘t know why I held it off probably because of those praises and of this kind of genre not being my usual type.
It turns out this book indeed lives up to the hype and I like it!! Hopefully there would be a movie.

emz711 Read her other book immediately! Also what genre would you put it in because I honestly don't know 2w
Yahui07 @emz711 which book of hers you recommend? For me this is more like imagination genre if such genre exists. Haha. (edited) 2w

This book was a beautifully written sorry. It's more about about magic than about circuses, as we know them today. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook but I think I would've preferred to read it because the words are transformative and when listening you have to pay close attention it may miss something vital. It took me 6 days to finish listening entirely but it was worth it.

Could someone explain #bookspinbingo to me? I'm very curious and I have a ton of November reads it from the library and on my cloud Library so. I'd love to know more about this!

#bookspinbingo #help

LibrarianRyan Ello, the nice thing about Bookspin and bingo is that you can make of it what you want. If you don't want to try for a bingo, then done and just try for the bookspin title. Not sure what books you want to read because you are an extream mood reader? That is okay too. If you look at my list, I almost never list exact copies that are not for bookclub, but more areas or ways I want to read. I can do this, because I can make it my own, & so can u 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Hey there!!! I host the BookSpin challenge. @hissingpotatoes linked to my masterpost, but basically the challenge is to choose 20 books you've been meaning to read (or, like @LibrarianRyan pointed out, you can also choose categories, like “nonfiction“ or “library book“ or whatever) & post them as a list. On the 2nd of the month I draw out 2 numbers (BookSpin & DoubleSpin). Throughout the month, everyone tries to read those numbers from their ⬇ 2mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) lists. The bingo part is I shuffle all the numbers into a bingo card, and everyone reads the books that match the numbers to score a bingo for that month. November's posts are really close to the top of my feed so you should be able to find them - the challenge may make more sense if you see it in action!! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions!!! 2mo
BudgetingBookwormBabe Thank you so much, I think after seeing the cards I have a better understanding! So much literary fun! I love it!! 2mo

Cecil is never good enough for her father, she is controlled and binded to a competition with an unknown opponent. The rules are not communicated, the goal is unclear. The competition will last a lifetime unless Cecil finds a way out.

On a journey of self discovery she starts to understand that what looks like magic as a child, is manipulation as an adult. That dreams can turn into nightmares.

This was my second attempt at reading this book, I am SO HAPPY I came back to it! I loved it! There was not a battle as much as there was a game, so I would take the summary lightly. It read like a fairy-tale for adults and I was utterly captivated by the circus and beautiful descriptions. Very much a setting/plot-based novel.

👋🏻 Still here, still reading. Amid the 📦. 🙃🎉 A magical moving circus 🎪 full of black and white tents, a competition and a love story, all rolled into one. Intrigue and romance, adventure and interesting storytelling. I'm so glad my thoughts on this book met my expectations!

I had such a fun time reading this! I felt like I was at this gorgeous black and white themed circus and away from reality. It was a wonderful experience.

The slow buildup of suspense in this novel was key and I absolutely loved Baileys character like he was my little brother!!

Definitely sad the book ended... still. I finished it a month ago.

Kitty was not super happy about having her picture taken this morning. I was super happy to have read this book though! It was very well written and plotted out. My only qualm was that the story wasn‘t in chronological order. I kept having to look back and figure out if this happened before that which pulled me out of the story some. A circus that is open only at night...a fierce magical competition where the competitors don‘t know the rules. It felt a bit like a mashup of Harry Potter & Hunger Games. Hmmm... I never would have read this book, but the audiobook is narrated by Jim Dale. Mr. Dale is AMAZING. I enjoyed this much more than I ever expected. Definitely a niche read/listen. Two duelling magicians each pits a chosen student against the other's student with the Night Circus as the arena for the game to play out.

Wonderfully atmospheric storytelling, pulling the reader along easily to the point that even the occasional anachronism really doesn't matter. All the stars.
