This 2016 essay and poetry collection edited by Jesmyn Ward is powerful and compelling. The title is a reference to James Baldwin's seminal 1963 text The Fire Next Time, which is now on my TBR.

Starting the night off with my February book club read #24in48. Arundhati Roy writes so beautifully!

Pickpick

A "found-footage/journal/notes" book (which I thinked worked really well for this story) about a missing girl, Carly/Kaitlyn Johnson, who may live with DID or house two souls in one body. Several people are dead and someone is messing with dark powers best left to themselves. This book was exactly what I was looking to read - an entertaining horror romp with some classic horror tropes and wonderfully disturbing and, at times, grotesque imagery.

I am consistently mesmerized by Rios's mind blowing art, DeConnick's utterly compelling storytelling, and Belaire's jaw-dropping colors. I LOVE this comic.

First book for my new book club. Excited to discuss next Sunday!

MrBook Want to read this one! How good are we talking here? 7y
Kestrel_Reads @MrBook I'd say it's worth reading. Doesn't really come through on the premise (a serve happened and everything changed), but did provide a fascinating, historical look and questions we've been pondering for...always 7y

Just started listening. A missing god. His tortured children.
The Library. Fascinating. Brutal. Enthralling. Can't wait to hear where's the story goes.

Narrated by August Ross. Cross of Buffy and Supernatural. So much fun!

Kestrel_Reads Not a huge fan of the insta-love and Cas is kind of an ass, but overall, if you love Buffy, you'll love this. Anna is such a great character! 7y

Enjoyable horror comedy. Zombie cows, a werewolf with a beer gut, a balding vampire, and a coming apocalypse... will we survive? One caveat: I was not a fan of the treatment of Loretta's weight.

Breathtaking. Masterfully conveys the raw emotion of first connection. This is the story of the amalgamation of Siss and Unn, two eleven-year old girls whose lives are irrevocably changed by their meeting and burgeoning friendship.
