While I'm really happy to have a book on the Stonewall riots for young readers in my library, I'm really disappointed that neither Marsha P Johnson nor Silvia Rivera are mentioned once. Although I did appreciate the anecdote about the rioters confounding the police with a kick line.

Really interesting and engaging history of the Vietnam War, includes Vietnamese perspective, such as a brief history of Chinese occupation, French colonialism, and the rise if Communism in Vietnam. Great introduction to the Vietnam War for young readers.

"The Americans thought that the more bombs they dropped, the quicker we would fall to our knees and surrender," a North Vietnamese physician recalled. "But the bombs heightened rather than dampened our spirit."

Finished Compendium 3 in my Walking Dead re-read. The Negan arc still has to be my favorite storyline in the series. And somehow the deaths in issue #144 hit me harder the second time around. Silence the Whisperers!

Fantastic nonfiction graphic novel, a history of paleontology and dinosaur discoveries. Not just about dinosaurs, but about science and the quest for understanding. I loved the chapter breaks which gave a rundown of the scientific "knowns" of that year, which we see change across different time periods.

Another Brian K Vaughan comic leaving me asking, "How is this so good? How is it so good?? Do people know??"

Beautiful story, not just about re-learning dance with a prosthesis, but a deeply spiritual journey of coming of age.

Very weird, left me feeling like I wasn't quite sure what the story was about, but wanting more if the characters.

Worth the read, the profiles of the different refugees were really interesting and compelling. But Pipher tends to be condescending and preachy.

Each chapter focuses on a different bird species. The tone is very conversational and personal along with the supporting scientific explanations.

Laika is well reviewed and won several awards, but it didn't quite do it for me. I think since I obviously knew how the story would end, the whole read was kind of a bummer.

Generally, I find crows and corvids fascinating, but I found the heavy focus on brain science, hormones and chemicals, and neurons pretty boring.

I wasn't sure a whole book about feathers could maintain my interest, but Feathers was fascinating! I loved the chapters on the evolution of feathers and flight. 🕊

Quick read - the chapters were short, but really interesting. Loved the sections on hummingbirds, magpies, albatrosses, and of course, dancing parrots.

I've been re-reading The Walking Dead from the very beginning. Just got to the part where my favorite villain (character) is introduced.
