Read this a while ago... basically you get to be Elizabeth Bennett and woo Darcy (or several other of Austen's male protagonists). Some of the footnotes share revealing insights about Austen's novels. The moral of the story seems to be that intelligent women are less likely to end up married, which I have certainly noticed in real life.

Ghosts | Dolly Alderton

Pickpick

An apt title for Halloween but based on a modern type of ghost rather than the traditional kind. An insightful book on the current dating scene from a female perspective which would probably class this as chick-lit but there is much here that men would also identify with, not least the scenes where the protagonist deals with her father's progressive dementia.

Wish I'd had this book at GCSE. A fascinating collection of short essays listing the various literary styles. The examples and books quoted make a great set of recommendations.

Spouses are often referred to as the 'old ball and chain' but what would happen if a man and a woman were chained together for a few days? Four short stories attempt to answer this question. An older book with some dated language but the themes remain as true today as they were then.

Really interesting book looking at how 'The God Delusion' Derren Brown style tricks to manipulate the reader. Also includes a Screwtaprle Letter style chapter to further explore Dawkins' techniques.

Having not had full access to the library over the last year, I have done more #spiritualreading than normal, which I can post now it is Lent. This was an interesting book by Pope JPII based on questions from a journalist for a television interview he was not able fit into his schedule.

An interesting insight into the thinking of the current Pope which I think will be of interest to Christians and sympathetic non-believers alike #spiritualreading #lent

This book is essentially a sermon dressed up as a novel. Whether you like it or not will depend on your theological literacy and where you are on your spiritual journey.

Really enjoyed this insight into the beautiful game by one of my childhood heroes, including behind the scenes information on the great Milan team of the late 1980s/ early 90s which contained Dutch teammates Frank Rijkaard and Marco Van Basten, and his analysis on the Barcelona of Guardiola and Messi as well as much more! #football #soccer
