Walked in on this scene right after finishing The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. Seems Bagel knew I'd need a serious Happily Ever After come-down after Whitehead's weighty novel. I dunno, girl. I might put off starting another book until tomorrow.

JuliaQuinn OMG I love this. I have a Pinterest board just for pics of animals with my books. May I steal? On a related note, I really need to read Underground Railroad. 8y

Finished Gilead a few days ago and almost immediately did this (I already had a copy of Lila.)

Then he asked, "Do you ever wonder why American Christianity always seems to wait for the real thinking to be done elsewhere?"

I've been reading this book at an impossibly slow pace because I want to savor it. Lines like this one are one. Robinson manages to give voice to every concern I've had with the faith I was raised in (even though I attended an admittedly ponderous church) in one line of dialogue. Just brilliant.

Thank you, Oprah.

Trying really hard to stick to my one book at a time rule and wait until I'm done with Gilead to start this.

Just started. How have I gotten this far without reading Marilynne Robinson? Alternatively, how exciting is it that I get to experience Marilynne Robinson for the first time?

On to the next one.

This month's book club assignment. In true book club fashion, I've put off reading the book until the week we meet.

Oh man, what an absurd, surreal, and terrifying novel.

I don't actually want to read this, but I should. I really should.

The Spoils of Independent Bookstore Day. Now to spend a few month maybe not buying new books and instead reading the piles already on my shelves.

You need protein to get through a Readathon. After finishing and returning all the library books that were ready all at once (that's how it always works with library holds, isn't it?) I'm ready to finish this behemoth for the fifth time.

A heartbreaking look at how young women, young Black women in particular, are taught to hate themselves. I'm going to need time to unpack everything Morrison lays out in this novel.

Work shenanigans and angry sinusy migraines have kept me from this book all week, but I'm finishing it before book club tonight.

Working my way through Moby-Dick for the fifth time (the first since grad school.) I guess we'll see if I can still call it my favorite book in a week.
