Great narrative writing that leads the reader through what seems like one of the most surreal episodes of the Second World War, due to the jarring numbers of casualties and scale of operations. Great as a window into the desperation and carnage of the Eastern front.

What an amazing, heart-wrenching novel. The images and emotions that come out of the page are haunting yet beautiful.

Really enjoyed this book. Provides an epic insight into what it might have been like in Serbia in the early years of the First World War when a tiny Serbia was clashing with the Austro-Hungarian empire.

If you‘re a RHCP fan this is an interesting read, however Flea doesn‘t go into his time with the RHCP, this book focuses on his life prior to the band forming.

Felt like a simple coming of age novel. Not much meat on the bone.

"It is a maxim among lawyers, that whatever hath been done before, may legally be done again: and therefore they take special care to record all the decisions formerly made against common justice and the general reason of man. These, under the name of precedents, they produce as authorities to justify the most iniquitous opinions; and the judges never fail of directing accordingly" - Jonathan Swift summarizing up the practice of law

All aboard, the ride through wild fantasies and captivating scenarios is a smooth one; fuelled by imagination, and under the direction of Swift's sober and unadorned tone, you will find yourself immersed in the description of fantastical places, as though a historical account of a real people and place.
