Pretty cool book mail today! I was sent excerpts of Flea‘s audiobook on VINYL. This is too unique!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Flea‘s early life autobiography, covering his difficult/volatile childhood and young adulthood, friendships, and early experiences with music and drug use. The book is a little quirky, like its author, but was good. I hope he writes a follow-up including more of his adult life, marriage, fatherhood, and time with the Red Hot Chili Peppers!

This was quite a good read. Flea loves reading books and always has done. This shines through in his writing. I enjoyed the writing, his story, and his honesty. I think I liked this more than Scar Tissue, the autobiography of Anthony Kiedis. My only criticism is I got a bit sick of the never ending drug taking snd crazy choices. But then that was his life! So overall it was well worth reading.

This was so good! The book is made up of short chapters sometimes one or two pages in the form of stories/memories of Fleas childhood. It reads like a friend sitting around telling crazy, emotional and heartbreaking stories. It just flows so smooth and laid back. I want to listen to the audiobook book next! Flea was nominated for a Grammy for it!

Library hold came in! As a teenager RHCP was one of my favorite bands! One Hot Minute is by far my favorite album by them. I cant wait to start this one!

If you‘re a RHCP fan this is an interesting read, however Flea doesn‘t go into his time with the RHCP, this book focuses on his life prior to the band forming.

Flea seems like a cool person who‘s done a lot of work to cultivate loving kindness and foster his own self-awareness. He‘s also a hardcore bibliophile committed to the sort of florid prose that makes my brain hurt. There‘s no way I could‘ve finished his memoir in print. Even on audio, I probably would‘ve bailed if my hands hadn‘t been too busy to find another option.

I listened to the first 60% of ACID FOR THE CHILDREN while I prepped this pattern and checked whether I‘ve got enough wool to make the entire suit. Because I‘ve sewed a bunch of simple pieces, so I‘m TOTALLY ready for an Yves Saint Laurent suit.

Anyways: I kinda expected the book to blow me away, but Flea‘s majorly into purple prose and I‘m majorly not. I‘ve only stuck with it because I‘ve discovered I like him as a person. #audiosewing

I love a good rock and roll story and, while this one was a little unconventional, it didn‘t disappoint. The story of his childhood and often troubling upbringing, Flea is brutally honest as he invites us into his unique and creative mind. I recommend this for anyone that enjoys learning more about the inner workings of true artists.

Being quite a new fan of the RHCP, I'm still learning about everything.
I've always kinda own about Anthony K but not much of the "crazy, hyperactive bassist".
I have so much love and respect for Flea.
I also like that he is big into books.
Dude knows how to write.

Although I didn‘t love the memoir, I appreciated Flea‘s booklist: Books That Blew My Mind....
And he‘s a true visionary and all around gentle soul 🎸🙌🏻❣️

I guess I was hoping it would be wild like Scar Tissue, or The Dirt, but this memoir felt tepid. Yes there is drugs and rock and roll but it still felt a little boring in comparison to lots of other rock memoirs I‘ve read. It ends where they clearly are planning on a second book, and I‘ll maybe check that one out to get to the action.

Am I losing my mind in isolation? Absolutely. So let‘s listen to this.

I already want to re-read this book. I've been a RHCP fan for years, and one of my nicknames is Flea, so I was mega excited to read this, and it didn't disappoint! Now to work through the music, film and book lists he's written at the end of the book!

Very much enjoyed this book.
An interesting man, Flea takes this opportunity to reflect on his life before Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I couldn‘t help feel that writing this book was an important milestone in his life and a chance to receive closure from so many uniquely dynamic relationships. The surface has been skimmed - I look forward to book 2 🤞🏻

Today was a cleaning day which means audiobooks! This book gives great insight into RHCP Flea's childhood. He narrates it with such raw emotion. You can tell he wrote this book with so much love. I cried, laughed out loud, and felt so many mixed emotions. Being a huge RHCP fan I enjoyed Flea telling his own story. If you enjoy memoirs give this one a try! ❤

While I learned a lot about Flea‘s life before RHCP fame, I probably wouldn‘t have read this had I realized beforehand that it stops at their first show.

I thought the audiobook was ok, but I‘m pretty sure very little of it will stick with me.

I do appreciate that Flea admits he‘s was lucky to live through his teenage escapades and drug experimentation. He doesn‘t make it sound glamorous and admits he made poor decisions.

Tears are not a happy or sad thing, they mean you care.

Lazy Sunday morning! At the end of the year I always pick a book that just feels right to be my first read of the upcoming year. This is the first book I‘m starting of 2020. Happy Sunday Funday everybody! •Dutch really enjoys lazy Sunday mornings too ☺️

I‘m in like, not love with this book.

I‘ve always found the road to fame more interesting than the fame itself; although, I‘ll definitely be there for round 2.

I like that he‘s become a humble, spiritual man with age and reflects on his youthful misadventures, which he was lucky to survive, with that in mind.

Full of interesting stories and anecdotes, my only major complaint is at times the stories felt disconnected. 4⭐️

This is is such a great read. Flea is not only a super interesting person, he‘s also kind of a genius. In music and in words. I loved reading about every stage in his childhood until the moment he calls ‘Chili Pepper time‘.
Can‘t wait for the sequel and to learn more about this great little man, his music and my favorite band 🖤🎶

Finished this one on a train to Chicago last night! Flea gives so much insight into his life, his inspirations, LA culture, his relationships with AK and Hillel, and substance abuse. I love Flea and I knew this would be well worth the read (and wait once I preordered it), but I didn‘t realize how much I‘d fall in love with Flea‘s big heart.

Ordered this autographed copy for my brother for Christmas. How much do you love Flea‘s autograph and little doodle?

Done! I enjoyed this. I didn‘t realize that this ends just as his music career starts. He had an interesting childhood. It got a little less interested once he finishes high school. Some of that felt like filler. But I love that he loves books, and the insights on his relationship with Anthony Kiedis (whose book I loved) are great. How would his life have turned out if he‘d stayed in Australia rather than moving to the U.S. as a kid? #NFNov

Today I learned Flea‘s journey to the US from Australia was by ship, and that it included a ceremonial dunking and two injuries. Welcome to the USA indeed. #TIL #NFNov

I‘m already struck by this book, and my heart is warm at the thought that this book is only one step towards Flea finding himself, and that by buying a copy I can have my own little part in that.

I finally have time to start it!! Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis was one of my favorites in high school, and I‘m hoping to start a similar love affair with this book.

Just getting started on Flea‘s memoir and today I learned he‘s from Australia. I just thought he was Californian. This is him with his grandmother, who immigrated alone to Australia from England after World War I. #TIL #NFNov

I *may* have been a little overly ambitious with my #NonfictionNovember holds at the library. Of course they all came in at the same time! I have a few more pages of my current read before I start the tagged book. #NFNov
