We Should All Be Feminists | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
post image

This is a super short read on feminism. If, like me, you eat, live, and breathe feminism, you will be shouting, "Yes!" "Preach!" and "So real." While snapping your fingers and wanting the conversation to go deeper, to a less familiar territory. But it won't. This book operates as a feminist primer. It says a lot of great stuff, but much we have heard before. So no, it probably won't fortify our battle lines, but maybe it can recruit a few troops.

One of the many truths in this book. Love Dorothy Allison's voice.

The Outsiders | SE Hinton

Picked this up tonight at Circle Cinema, the movie house Ponyboy steps out of in the first line of the book. I've been there before, but didn't realize it was THE theater. I got a bit emotional, as nerdy as it is.

Bostonmomx2 That is really seriously cool! 7y

This has been on my TBR shelf for about a year now. I'm excited to finally get around to it.

I really love Ellen, but this book? Not so much. Maybe it's just not my style.

Such a good, quick read, but I know I'm getting ready to shed some tears.

This won't keep me awake in fear all night, but it will definitely give me the wiggins.

Coraline | Neil Gaiman

Pickpick

Coralline is a modern fairy tale told by one of the greatest story tellers of our time. I may not read it to young children at bedtime, but I would definitely read it to them.

The Kingdom of Childhood | Rebecca Coleman

Mehso-so

This book is a difficult read in the same way that Lolita is a difficult read. A teacher's sexual involvement with a student set against the backdrop of the Clinton impeachment trials. It's disturbing to say the least. I'm not sure if I followed a descent into madness, or was there the whole time.

Such a weird and disturbing book. Every time I get comfortable in the events of the story, something happens to remind me I'm not supposed to be comfortable.

I have a love/hate relationship with Stephen King, but I liked this one. I will say I think Jake deserved a more dramatic end. I felt his character was ripped off in the death department.

I'm a sucker for a great first paragraph. This book is a teeny bit obscure (meaning I got it from the sale bin and have heard nothing about it), but I have high hopes.

Just finished this one. It was hauntingly beautiful. I'm not sure why, but I was completely enchanted.

God in Ruins | Kate Atkinson
Pickpick

Putting this book down and picking up another feels like betrayal. Kate Atkinson has worked her magic in A God in Ruins. The Todd family once again consumes page, imagination, and, honestly, my heart. Read it.

Caryl I just finished this one, too. Kate Atkinson is fantastic. 8y

Dim light and a quiet house; I can't think of any better way to delve into this book.

I just finished this one because it will be taught at my school next year. It's really amazing to read a book written by and about Native Americans, the silenced and hidden people of our country. Now, what to read next?

I'm in the process of writing high school curriculum and this is one of the included texts. I love being reminded that a book once touched my very soul before I even knew what was happening, and I love the idea that that very thing could happen to my students. ❤️

I first read Rebecca on recommendation from a friend. I didn't want to like it. However, i did. Now, years later, the first line makes me wish I were reading for the first time again. ❤️

But I always have thought it was strange, if our mother cells done so much for medicine, how come her family can't afford to see no doctors? Don't make no sense. People got rich off my mother without us even knowin about them takin her cells, now we don't get a dime.

ReadingOver50 I have this patiently waiting on my shelf. It sounds like such an interesting story. 8y
NoWeepingAngel I'm about halfway through it, and you are right, it is very interesting. I'm glad I picked it up. 8y

Infinite Jest nearly drove me mad, but it has also stayed with me, lingering always in the back of my mind. So, it only makes sense I would jump at the challenge of reading House of Leaves.
