Pickpick

Not often a reader of motivational/self help books but this turned out to be a good exception. Basketball was the main metaphor here, which was slightly lost on me, but what grabbed me was the sincere passion of the author. He interwove his faith through his advice and guidance and it was a pleasure to read. Didn‘t convince me to delve further into this genre just yet but it was a worthwhile read.

Two things brought me to this book. The first was how good 1000 Years of Annoying the French was. The second is that I‘ve always wanted to know a bit more about the French Revolution. Curiosity brought on by reading A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. And this book did not disappoint. It‘s on the length side but you almost don‘t notice that because it‘s so well written that you could read and read forever.

Mehso-so

If you‘ve met me you will know how much I adore cycling and how my world stops for three weeks in July as all I live and breathe is Le Tour de France. Which is how I came to be reading this book. It‘s opened the window for me on a history that has been murky but also one that shows endurance and spirit. Not the easiest read I‘ve ever had but worth working through.

An Echo in the Darkness | Francine Rivers

I‘d been looking forward to reading this for a while because it is the second in the Mark of the Lion series and A Voice in the Wind had ended in a way that had hadn‘t expected. An Echo in the Darkness started the same way - not what I thought would happen at all! Coming to the end I was glad that the series had three books so the story didn‘t have to end just yet. But I will be very sad when it is all over.
