This started so promisingly!! Genuinely unsettling and a brilliant concept. But about a third of the way in the plot starts to move away from the original premise, and by the end I felt I was reading a completely different book to the one I started. Ridiculous ending, far too convenient and felt like the author just wanted to wrap up as fast as possible. Have to say the feeling was mutual 😕

“Her doctors have advised that congress with a man would be good for her health. If a young woman‘s vital spirits are bottled up, she becomes pale and thin, her appetite wanes, she begins to waste; marriage is an occupation for her, she forgets her minor ailments; her womb remains anchored and primed for use, and shows no tendency to go wandering about her body as if it had nothing better to do”

At the moment my ideal #Saturdaynight is getting cosy in bed with Thomas Cromwell 🤣 I read Wolf Hall a couple of years ago, loved it (obviously), and always meant to come back for part 2. So far it does not disappoint 🙌🏻 #ilovethetudors

“I should infinitely prefer a book.” Mary Bennet is a girl after my own heart.

I know you should never judge a book by its cover, but I love the variety of modern designs on Jane Austen‘s classics that keep them relevant and fresh.

This is an absolute gem of a book, I devoured it in a few days. Fans of Downton Abbey will love it. Travel back in time to see life through the eyes of a butler in a grand house between the first and second world wars.

Bloody hilarious. Perfect for commuting and dipping in and out of. I was laughing out loud in public and getting some weird looks. Thoroughly recommended!

I‘m always intrigued to read the Booker winners...maybe it‘s because I want to be a serious literary enthusiast, maybe it‘s FOMO. This is certainly unlike any book I‘ve ever read, but not in a good way. I found it hard to get into, the language takes a lot of adjusting and the lack of names of any characters can feel a little pretentious at times. Very abstract, and most certainly not a light read.
