Borderlands | Gloria Anzalda

“The psychological borderlands, the sexual borderlands and the spiritual borderlands are not particular to the Southwest. In fact, the Borderlands are physically present wherever two or more cultures edge each other, where people of different races occupy the same territory, where under, lower, middle and upper classes touch, where the space between two individuals shrinks with intimacy.” —introduction to the first edition

I've been catching up on the beautiful story of a family that is fighting for and with love across a universe torn apart. Read this series!

Forest of Memory | Mary Robinette Kowal

Great little book about technology and memory. The kind of technology described seemed so plausible for a near-future setting. It also made me appreciate more than usual the feel of the books in my library and the beauty of the deer that wandered into my yard today.

Good for a quick read, but the pacing did seem to flag. At one point it took the character multiple chapters to walk down a hallway. Meh.

I loved reading this book so much. The characters are rich and the emotions were raw. Each story was its own complex world, but the whole experience left me full.

I don't usually post my academic books, but this one was too pretty not to. It's a great read for anyone interested in an in depth look behind the scenes of 1950s Hollywood.

Jill Lepore deftly links the early 20th century feminist movement through its many ebbs and flows to its height in the 1960s and 70s through the sensational icon, Wonder Woman, and the real-life stories of her creators, Elizabeth Holloway Marston, Olive Byrne Richard, and William Moulton Marsten.

Interesting but strange. While the discussion of the society was full and complex, the plot was weak. The ending felt particularly abrupt.

After so many years of loving this charming redhead, I've finally visited the land that inspired her. LM Montgomery is a dear literary kindred spirit.
"Dear old world', she murmured, 'you are very lovely, and I am glad to be alive in you."

In honor of Free Comic Book Day, catching up with the sensational Wonder Woman and Jill Lepore.

Maureen Been listening to the audiobook which is awesome, but picked up the text version and realized there were pictures and graphics that I was missing... This is a book that must be read and enjoyed in print. 8y
SEDMitchell The images are certainly one of the best parts. Some of the notes are worth checking out too if you are interested in the way Lepore did her research. 8y
