Pickpick

A unique universe with twists and subtle threads that I enjoyed piecing together. The narration keeps you a little off balance, much like the main character is - both capable and confused. I‘m looking forward to the rest of the trilogy; there‘s a lot more about the characters and the universe that has been hinted but not yet fully explained. It‘s a book you have to pay attention to fairly closely, and the underlying story is worth it.

Beautifully plotted, witty, with plenty of twists and a widely varied array of characters you can‘t wait to know more about. Book 2 is already out and devoured; I can‘t wait for book 3.

#GeorgetteHeyer has been one of my favorite authors since I was 11, when I first picked up one of her books from my grandmother‘s collection of secondhand paperbacks. I‘m slowly rebuilding my own collection with a mixture of handed-down copies and brand-new editions. This is one I‘d never even heard of: Georgette‘s collected short stories from magazines! Like a nibble of a brownie rather than the whole square, but still very enjoyable.

howjessicareads This is mostly a reprint of Pistols for Two, if you‘d ever read that. But I was soooo excited at the inclusion of 3 new stories!! 7y
SunshineBookworm I‘d never read any of her short stories! I‘ve read the vast majority of her novels, so I was very excited about this collection. 7y

I‘m not usually a fan of war historicals, but I dearly love dragons. Book 1 was a Christmas gift from my father that I waited way too long to read - and then I snapped up the rest of the series from my local library to marathon. I still didn‘t enjoy the war aspects, but the characters, the humor, and the moral quandaries kept me reading far past my bedtime most days. The treatment of the dragons was far too realistic, but the ending satisfied.

Friday night relaxation reading, ironically curled up between a pair of politely purring felis catus. Laughed out loud at the library joke...

Mehso-so

Discussed Ninefox Gambit with my library‘s GNU (Geeks, Nerds, and U!) group tonight... There‘s a ton of dense detail, mostly illuminated through context, and a lot of darkness, but by the end I was hooked by the main characters (oh, who am I kidding? Jadeo had me hooked by a third of the way in) and I‘m curious about book 2.
