I wish I could rate this book higher than just "Pick". This is an absolute 5 star, 10/10, brilliant book that will stay with me for a very long time. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, as it is wonderfully written. As for the storyline... I have mixed emotions between fascination, sadness, wonder and amazement. What a great book!

cherinium I'm ashamed to say that this is a book which I honestly can't remember if I have read. It has been on my radar for a long time, and it sounds like something I would love. But whenever I read a blurb, I am struck with a feeling of familiarity that makes me think I have already read it, although I can't think of any details besides what is revealed in blurbs. I wish it had occurred to me earlier to keep track of my reads. 3w

I found this book quite enjoyable, however, I've rated the book as a historical fiction novel. In this genre, the book lacked a bit of historical facts (in my humble opinion).
However, still a very entertaining book to read.

The Turn of Midnight | Minette Walters

This is the Part 2 in Minette Walters' Black Death Series. Oh, what a wonderfully, brilliant read this was. A historical fiction book, set in the 14th Century, Old England. The author has a phenomenal way with character development, and I could not read this series fast enough. She adapted the language to match the time, and, as a reader, I got lost in this wonderful tale of loss, courage and survival.

What a phenomenal book this was! I have read quite a few books on the topic of the Holocaust, but this is by far the absolute best book of it's kind I have ever read. This book is both heart warming and heart wrenching, all at the same time. One starts one with a faint dislike for the main character, Eleanor. The story moves that feeling to a strong "falling in love", and before you know it, your heart is broken. But, like any great story, the ending leaves you wanting more...

What a wonderful surprise, this book was. I absolutely loved and enjoyed every word I read. It is a very detailed, thoughtful and smartly written book that will leave you wanting more. I'm still on a "Circe-High". Wow!

ImperfectCJ I loved this one, too! The audiobook is fantastic, and now I want to read the print book. 5mo
Yoricke_SouthAfrica @ImperfectCJ I started with The Song of Achilles (actual book), which is apparently the pre-book to Circe. It was also a brilliant book. I can highly recommend it as well. 5mo
ImperfectCJ @Yoricke_SouthAfrica I read (and loved) Song of Achilles, too, in ebook format. Funny, I hadn't thought of it as a pre-book to Circe, but if you look at the Trojan War/The Iliad as a precursor to The Odyssey, the Song of Achilles-Circe progression makes sense. 5mo
See All 6 Comments
Yoricke_SouthAfrica @ImperfectCJ I read it in that order on guidance from book groups, and found the referencing to the Trojan War and Odysseus' role in the war in Circe quite useful (especially as I read it back-to-back). Both books are definitely books I will read again. I think I might have discovered a new love for Greek mythology. 5mo
ImperfectCJ @Yoricke_SouthAfrica My children love mythology (Greek, Roman, Norse...whatever they can get their hands on), so I've been exposed to a fair bit through them but have just been getting into it for myself recently.
