"No other country in the world imprisons so many of its racial or ethnic minorities," writes Alexander. "The United States imprisons a larger percentage of its black population than South Africa did at the height of apartheid."

'A Lovers a liar, to himself he lies. The truthful are loveless, like oysters their eyes.'
Quite a contemplative ending. I think Vonnegut wanted us to think about the constructs that we hold on to for security in this world. Religion, science, personal relationships are all things that we romanticize in our own minds because the simple plain truth is both boring and terrifying.

Very captivating. Her command over language is astonishing. I couldn't get through without a dictionary - but she's not wordy for the sake of pedantry. Rather her descriptions and expressions are quite poetic and even necessary to describe the majestic and thwarting elegance that is the goshawk. On a cautionary note, this book might leave you rather pensive - some days were quite hard.
Lasted winter, I was fortunate enough to land a life long dream and see this magnificent beast manifest in front of our very eyes amongst the enchanting marshes of ranthambore. We ended up seeing this boy - who put up quite a royal show with an utmost non chalance towards his spectators - possibly the mark of a rajah in the making. Thappar is the default when it comes to the Bengal breed and this fantastic read served as a great field guide.
We were not a hugging people. In terms of emotional comfort it was our belief that no amount of physical contact could match the healing powers of a well made cocktail - much more where that came from!
Probably more content in these 12 lines than numerous works of fiction. Truly a literary masterpiece this song.
First time Vonnegut that is not a short story - has me completely hy-u-o-ook-kuh'd! Such fluid and clever writing.
One of my disc world favorites. The premise is that gods are only as powerful as the following they garner. And that simple idea is pushed to the brinks of hilarity and is very good at trolling modern religion. Highly recommended - ook? Ook!
Waited a while to finally get this in my stack. Chp 1 already has me hooked
Such a maniacal and lovably skewed vision of the world. Caution: Book needs a carpet... for all that 'roflamo'!
I had little idea about the myriad ways in which one hallucinates, be it audio, tactile, visual and even sensual or emotional. This book might've gained fame due to sacks drug revelations , but offers much more. He also details migraine auras which I particularly related to.
I especially loved the meta format this book was written in. It involves the discovery of a diary by a lady (who has remarkably similar attributes to the author) and as a reader you are equally a participant - albeit vicariously.
