Waiting to see the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction winner, Bob Dylan, at the Shreveport Municipal, home to the Louisiana Hayride (Elvis's first professional gig).

I've seen some criticism of this year's choice but after last night's Nerd Nite Austin talk on concept albums I realize it's an excellent one. Music is poetry and, in fact, ancient poetry was often accompanied by music. In recognizing Dylan the human history of poetry and music is celebrated. Dylan's work also illustrates a deep understanding of a variety of social issues, which makes his selection all the more timely.

Stephanie-Anne I agree! Their choice is appropriate and well-deserved ❤️ 8y

DESTINY is a feeling you have that you know something about yourself nobody else does. The picture you have in your own mind of what you're about WILL COME TRUE. It's a kind of a thing you kind of have to keep to your own self, because it's a fragile feeling, and you put it out there, then someone will kill it. It's best to keep that all inside.

Question of the day - Who would you award the Nobel Prize in literature to?

the_hibernator Haruki Murakami 8y
KarenUK @the_hibernator second that! 8y

BookishFeminist Also because damnit more women need this prize: Margaret Atwood, Ursula K Le Guin, Louise Erdrich, and Isabel Allende would also be very deserving of this prize. And that's just the Americas. Hoping that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Edwidge Danticat will be considered in future years as well. 8y
Amandajoy @BookishFeminist I like your suggestions, how do we get you on the committee? 8y
BookishFeminist @Amandajoy From the sounds of it I'd need to grow a penis! 8y
shawnmooney All of the writers mentioned are richly deserving, I'm sure, but Dylan was an inspired choice. 8y
Zelma I was going to say Alice Munro but she won recently. Great choices, @BookishFeminist. 8y
Amandajoy @BookishFeminist There's got to be a better way! 8y

Probably more content in these 12 lines than numerous works of fiction. Truly a literary masterpiece this song.
