Dune | Frank Herbert
post image

Diving into Dune for the first time. The new Dune mp looks beautiful, so I want to get to know the world before we watch it. I don‘t normally gravitate toward epic sci-fi, but I found myself hooked after the first short chapter alone. I was initially intimidated by the books language and heavy character introductions, but the writing is smooth, making it easy to grasp. Any Dune-heads out there?

Pickpick

Brutal and poignant - a fairy tale without a happily ever after, not for all animals anyway. Spending some time on Orwell has been enlightening, but perhaps a break is in order - feeling thoroughly horrible!

Metamorphosis | Franz Kafka

Pickpick

I read this around February 2020. I remember the themes of Kafka‘s novella hitting me rather hard at the time, as I had just switched jobs and had this feeling of impending doom with the transition. A feeling that I was living my life wrong, transitioning from mindless work I so detested into an environment that provided nothing short of the same. I thought, one day I‘ll wake up and find myself with nothing worthwhile to reflect upon, insectile.

1984 | George Orwell

Pickpick

I‘m glad I finally read George Orwell‘s 1984. I‘m still rattled over the stark parallels between the brutal totalitarian state of Oceania, and my current experience working for a large corporation. When Winston gets a good look at himself in that trifold mirror in Room 101, I sobbed.
