Matilda / Matilda | Roald Dahl

One of the first book characters I ever wanted to exist in real life. A major icon from my childhood whom I still love today!

The characters were brilliant, but the story was flat. I wish the conflict went deeper than "not getting along with your parents".

I loved this book! Both siblings got stellar character arcs and tender romances. I'm so happy I read this.

I loved the characters and all of the religious talk, but the writing style grated on me. Did there have to be so many italics? Inspiring nonetheless.

Two things I love reading about: siblings and magic. A brother/sister duo get mentored by Nicholas Flamel and a few other "immortals". Awesome series!

A marvelous book about one of my favorite historical figures and the people in his life. A great history lesson too!

It's anti-racism message seems too simplistic, but it still deserves the title of Great American Novel for its fleshed out characters and setting. 4/5 stars!

I keep describing this series as Princess Bride for science fiction. Hilarious and clever plots, great characters, and stellar writing make this a gem!

Yes, it's an outstanding story, but it's also graphic in some parts. Not for everyone!

The book was great overall, but the plot was so bogged down in tiny details. I read Spark Notes WHILE reading this book so I wouldn't get lost!

I have these books at home, and they are stunning! There's so much detail in all of the characters and settings. I wish this series was way more popular!

I'm so conflicted over this story! The characters were awful, but their relationships touched me. It's complicated.

Insightful reading! The symbols were powerful, yet subtle and unique. Irving can bring so much new material to even the most well-worn topics. He's a great author!

Sure, there were some close friendships, but I feel like most of the characters hated each other. Not a stellar read...

One of my least favorite books EVER. Florentino was immature and creepy, and none of the relationships in this book seemed romantic. In fact, this might be the world's least romantic romance novel.

I love it because it's weird and Vonnegut uses the most descriptive prose. He's one of the most original authors I've ever read.

My favorite John Green book! Most teens don't act like Q and Margo, but the book still has a valuable message about seeing people for who they truly are. I'm glad I got to meet the real Margo!
