This is actually the last quote before we're told that the protagonist is stuck between his two choices. I've always loved this story, but it was while I was in the psych ward, reading this book that I probably shouldn't have been allowed to have, that I realized the power of that statement. None of it matters. "It's all just the rinse cycle," and that's okay.
