Dream Work | Mary Oliver

"I wanted
the past to go away, I wanted
to leave it, like another country; I wanted
my life to close, and open
like a hinge, like a wing, like the part of the song where it falls
down over the rocks: an explosion, a discovery;
I wanted
to hurry into the work of my life; I wanted to know,
whoever I was, I was

alive
for a little while."

Could not put this down. This weekend's to-do list went completely undone, but I loved every second of this book! 💖

I saw mixed reviews of this on Goodreads that almost turned me off of this one, but I am so glad I decided to give it a try anyway! Gabrielle Bernstein is so kind, fun and relatable while also doing an amazing job as a teacher and guide. Loving this!

Wow. Wow. Wow. After seeing this recommended many times on litsy and elsewhere, I finally read it myself. I couldn't put it down. 100% required reading.

I have mixed feelings about this book. A lot of it didn't work for me, but, as this poem suggests, the book's ability to work for the individual reader is not necessarily the point of it. The poems that did stand out were lovely. I don't think I would recommend this to a friend--but it seems like everyone has already read it anyway, so I'm not sure I could even if I wanted to! 😜

Wish I had this to read when I was younger! This was a fun, quick read and Lunella is a great hero for young girls!

I am once again shocked and ashamed at how little I really know about the indigenous people in the country where I live. This was a powerful book and it helped me find even more related books to add to my TBR pile.

"Fear is the primary force upholding structures of domination.  It promotes the desire for separation, the desire not to be known. When we are taught that safety lies always with sameness, then difference of any kind, will appear as a threat. When we choose to love we choose to move against fear--against alienation and separation. The choice to love is a choice to connect--to find ourselves in the other." bell hooks
