The Hearts We Sold | Emily Lloyd-Jones

3.5 ⭐️
What I like about the book is the originality of the story, and that it is the combination of something magical but also sci-fi. I'm also the kind of person who judge a book by the 'bestfriend' character, in this case, Gremma, which is a very cool character. What I don't like is that there are so many tropes that are typically found in YA books, and also the ending, where all the set up to the ending is only explained in the last 20 pages.

I recently just finished this book and I gave it 3.5 ✨ mainly because it took me so long to finish it. But I loved the characters, and despite only depicting a glimpse of their lives, there's still a certain extent of character development. I also love the writing, it's amazing how the author successfully wrote dialogues without a single quotation mark, the whole entire book. I find it very unique especially for a contemporary novel like this.

KateFulfordAuthor @karina.reads perhaps you could consider my debut? Reviews are saying: “I loved this book more than I initially thought I would. Fulford infuses her characters with intense personalities that are prone to clashing with those of others. I loved Eve from the very beginning..." It‘s been nominated for The People's Book Prize 2018 too!

Didn't like it. I thought it was too shallow and the dialogue between characters is a bit cringy and over the top.

15 minutes to the end of #24in48 official hour! I ended up read 2 books and 1 book still in progress. I know I won't finish it in time because I'm only in page 60, but still I'm so happy with the result! I got to read for 16 hours in 48 hours. Despite not making it into 24 hours, I'm still proud of the result. I've just set a personal record for myself, and I'm looking forward for the next readathon! 🙌🏼 Thanks Rachel and team for hosting this!

Rating: 3/5 ⭐️

I finished When Dimple Met Rishi yesterday and loved it for its diverse characters and depiction of Indian American culture. But some of the scenes are too cliche for my taste, I felt like watching a corny Bollywood movie.
.
I actually posted this photo in my insta account for the #24in48 challenge but I realized I haven't posted my review on When Dimple Met Rishi so here it is!

Finished this book at my 14th hour of #24in48 readathon, and I loved it! It was so intense and I literally couldn't put it down until the very last page! Haylen Beck (pen name of Stuart Neville) has successfully wrote such a gripping story which make readers can't wait to see what happens next, and I honestly think this book will make a great movie. 12 hours in the #24in48 readathon and I almost finish my second book, which is Here and Gone. This book is definitely fast-paced, and I really can't wait to see what happen at the end. On another note, I'm so glad I joined this readathon, never thought I would get this much reading done! ??

Gave this book 3/5 ⭐️ with reasons I explained in more details in my goodreads account. I just wanna say that this book has so much potential that it didn't really live up to. There were times where I got bored and yet my patience was not paid off. And I'm mostly disappointed with the ending. But this is probably because I just don't get the book. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I love Elise as a character though, and Buck as a pet dog gave me so much feels.

I don't even know where to start with this book... I'll probably write a longer review in my goodreads account. But I just wanna say that this book is more relevant than ever, and everyone needs to read it. If it makes you uncomfortable then it's all the more reason to read it. And all the hype? Totally justified. Rating: 5/5 ⭐️

Men Without Women | Haruki Murakami

Pickpick

This book consists of 7 short stories that reminds me again what a wonderful time it is to be alive at the same era with an author as talented as Murakami. It also reminds me that reading Murakami is never about the ending, but it's about the way to get to it. I recommend this to everyone who never reads Murakami and wants to get a small dose of various kinds of his writing, to see if you like it or not. But you probably will.

Sometimes I struggle to read YA Fantasy because I can't always understand the world-building, but this one isn't. I love Alosa as the main character and Riden is so dreamy. The only thing that prevent me to give it 5 stars is the way it ends which I felt is too abruptly. One moment Riden was telling a story and suddenly, the end? I wish there could be one short chapter of epilogue that give a teaser for the next book. Overall: 4/5 ⭐️

Pickpick

It's been a while since I've read a sci-fi thriller and Dark Matter did not disappoint at all. At first, there are a few elements that I can predict, but as it progressed I got sucked in with the story, the writing is fast-paced, and consist of back & forth dialogues. What's more unique is that this book is basically a love story about an ordinary guy who's trying to find his way to his family, which also makes it easier to relate. Overall: 5/5 ⭐️

Eliza and Her Monsters | Francesca Zappia

I loved this book! I started it yesterday and just finished it now. Francesca Zappia wrote such a beautiful story about fandom, and how fun it is to have an online community with the same interests, yet also successfully highlighted an important issue of mental health. But if there's one thing I have to dislike from this book, it's Eliza's parents. They slightly annoyed me 😌 But overall, 5/5 ⭐️s

Just finished this book earlier today and I never thought that I will enjoy a love story of a 50-year old man this much. The book is beautifully written, and the story is heartbreaking but also making me hopeful at the same time. It's also making me want to visit France so bad. Oh, and because of the writing is so beautiful, I can't help but tabbing so many pages that contain memorable quotes just to visit later.

Final verdict: 4/5 stars
